AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING AS A ONE-WAY ALLEY FOR VEHICULAR
TRAFFIC A CERTAIN ALLEY WHICH EXTENDS FROM NINTH STREET TO
TENTH STREET AND BETWEEN AVENUE K AND AVENUE J• LUBBOCK, TEX

PRESCRIBING THE SIZE AND WORDING OF SIGNS, DESIGNATING EXTRANCE
AND EXIT OF SAID ALLEY, THE HEIGHT OF SIGNS FROM THE SURFACE OF
THE GROUND, PROVIDING A PENALTY NOT TO EXCEED $200. 00 FOR THE
OPERATION OF ANY VEHICLE IN VIOLATION OF THE PROVISIONS OF THIS
ORDINANCE AND DIRECTING THE CITY SECRETARY TO PUBLLSR.TI{E-DES-
CRIPTION CAPTION OF THIS ORDINANCE WITH PENALTY SECTION.
WHEREAS, the alley which extends from Ninth Street to Tenth Street and
lying between Avenue K and Avenue J in Lubbock, Texas, is narrow and inadequat~
to accommodate vehiddar traffic in more than one direction, and, further because
of the increased traffic in said alley has caused congestion which creates an un~
safe and undesirable condition; and,
WHEREAS. the City Commission finds that it will be in the public interest
to limit the use of said alley to one-way vehicular traffic in order to expedite the
movement of vehicles and the loading and unloading of commodities and persons
by private and public conveyance: NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SECTION 1. That the alley which is between Avenue K and Avenue J and
extending from Ninth Street to Tenth Street in Lubbock, Texas, be and the same
is hereby designated as a one-way alley for vehicular traffic with entrance to said j alley and direction of travel indicated as follows:
SECTION 2, The entrance to said alley shall be on Ninth Street for South
bi>und traffic and one -way vehicular traffic shall extend to Tenth Street in said
alley as it is at present between A~nue K and Avenue J in Lubbock, Texas.
SECTION 3. Signs and Locations: Proper signs will be placed in conspicuoQ~S
locations in the entrance to said alley, exits thereto, and at intersection thereof.
In the alley entrance on Ninth Street there will be placed 1811 X 24" black and white
sign with arrow and inscription reading none -Way"; in the exit to said alley on
Tenth Street ther:e will be placed 1811 X 24" black and white sign reading HOne -Way
Do Not Enter". All said signs will be attached securely by proper means in a
conspicuous location either to telephone poles, power line poles, permanent and
secure posts, or fences and buildings where same can be made secure, provided
the owners of such poles, fences, posts and buildings give coasent for the fastenin
of such signs. Height of signs from alley Surface: The si~n shall be placed so tha
the bottom of each sign will be between seven (7) and nine (9) feet above the ground
surface in said alley.
SECTION 4. It shall be unlawful hereafter for any person to operate and dri e (!
or to permit the operation of any vehicle in said alley designated in Sections One (1 ,
Two (2.}, and Three (3} except in a Southerly direction or to drive or permit the
driving or operation of alJY vehicle in said alley in violation of the provisions of thi
Ordinance.
SECTION 5. Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this
Ordinance shall be fined, upon conviction, in any sum not to exceed Two Hundred
($200, 00} Dollars.

the descriptive caption of this Ordinance, together \-with the penalty section, as
an alternative method of publications as provided by law.
