HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 3325-1960 - Amending Zoning Ordinance 1507, 1768 Authorizing The Erection Traffic Control Si - 12/08/1960JW ORDINANCE NO. 3325 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 1507 AND 1768 OF THE CIT OF LUBBOCK; ESTABLISHING.AND AUTHORIZING THE ERECTION AND MAIN- TENANCE OF AN AUTOMATIC MECHANICAL TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNAL LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTIONS OF EIGHTH STREET AND AVENUE 11 T 11 AND EIGHTH STREET AND COLLEGE AVENUE IN THE CITY OF LUBBOCK; PRO- VIDING A PENALTY AND PUBUCATION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY., WHEREAS, public necessity, convenience and safety require the establish- ment of a mechanical traffic control device at the hereinafter named intersection to be used in conjunction with the emergency use of the streets by vehicles of the City Fire Department, and such traffic control device will decrease the traffic hazard at such intersection caused by such emergency use of the streets; NOW, THEREFORE: . BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. Ordinances Nos. 1507 and 1768 of the City of Lubbock are hereb' repealed. SECTION 2. THAT the Traffic Engineer of the City of Lubbock is hereby authorized and directed to install and maintain an automatic mechanical traffic control signal light at the intersections of Eighth Street and Avenue 111:11 and Eight Street and College Avenue which shall be controlled by the City of Lubbock Fire Department and shall exhibit a red colored light which shall be lighted and shown when necessary to warn traffic of the possible approach of emergency Fire De- partment vehicles. II SECTION 3. THAT whenever said emergency traffic control light is in opera tion and is showing a red light, all vehicular and pedestrian traffic facing the signal shall come to a complete stop before entering into the crosswalk or inter- section and saall remain stopped until said light is no longer exhibiting a red light Any person, firm or corporation violating the provisions of this section shall upon conviction be fined in any sum not to exceed $200. 00. SECTION 4. THAT the enactment of this Ordinance, being necessary to the public safety, and to provide for the safe use of the streets when emergency fire vehicles aee responding to a call is declared to be an emergency measure, there- by creating .a public necessity that the rule requiring proposed ordinances to be presented at two separate meetings be dispensed with; and this Ordinance shall be effective from the date of is passage, as provided by law. SECTION 5. THAT the City Secretary shall cause the publication of this Ordinance once a week for two consecutive weeks in a newspaper regularly pub- lished in the City of Lubbock.
