AN ORDINANCE AU'l'HORIZING THE ALTERING AND CHANGING OF THE PRIMA FACIE
SPEED LIMIT FROM 30 MILES PER HOUR TO 3 5 MII.lS PER HOUR ON THAT PORTION
OF THE STRm'S DESCRIBED AS FOIJ..OWS:
On both sides of 50th Street beginning at the intersection of Gar,r
Avenue and extending r.Jest to the intersection of Indiana Avenue.

FOR PUBLICA.TION; AND DEClARING AN EMimGENCY; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE

WHERElS, the governing body, as authorized by Article S27a, Seco 8,
Vernon's Annotated Penal Code, finds that certain prima facie speed limits on
certain highways are different from what is reasonable or safe and should be
altered and tbe~diat• preservation of public health and safety requires· im-
mediate alteration of said prima facie speed limite as hereafter set forth, ·
which creates an emergency; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDt\IN!D BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF WBBOOX:

.. SECTION 1.. The prima facie speed li.J:nft established by Article S27a,
Seco 8, Subsection 1 {b), Vernon's Annotated ~n~l Code is altered and changed
tor all vehicles to 35 miles per hour on the ,._, 1 owing designated highways
or street in the corporate limits of the City of~ubbock, Lubbock County,
Texas, to-wit:
On both sides of 50th Street beginning at ~he intersection of Gary
Avenue and extending West t o the intersection of Indiana Avenue.
SECTION 2o The City Manager is authorized and directed to cause the
p[acing of signs so as to clearly define the limits of the prima facie areas
set out in this Ordinance.
SECTION 3. An~erson, firm or corporation violating the prima facie
speed limit established "by" this Ordinance shall upon conviction be fined in
any sum no~ to-.eeed TWO HUNDRED DOLlARS ($200o00) and for subsequent viola ..
tions within one year thereafter shall be prosecuted as prescribed for such
violations by Seco 15 of Article 827a, Vernonia Annotated Penal Code.
SECTION 4. The City Secretary is authorized and directed to cause
the publication of the descriptive baption of this Ordinance together with
the penalty provision as an alternative method of publication as provided by law.
SECTION 5. The fact that public necessity and coDVenience requires
that this Ordinance be passed as an emergenct. measure for reasons set forth in
the preamble hereof, the rule requiring that no Ordinance shall be finally
p$Ssed on the day of its introduction be suspended, and this Ordinance is de-
clared to be an emergency measure to take effect for and after its passage.
