J ,.dJ AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE ALTERING AND CHANGING OF THE PRIMA FACIE }) SPEED LIMI'l' FROM tiJ MitES PER HOUR TO 55 MILES PER HOUR ON TRA T PORTION OF THE STREETS DESCRIBED AS FOLLOWS: On the South aide of East 50th Street beginning 0.30 miles fran the old Slaton Highway and extending East for 0.40 miles. This is for DLst bound traffic only. AUTHORIZING THE PLACING OF SPEED LIMIT SIG'r-JS; PRESCRIBING A PENALTY; PROVIDING FOR l'tJBUCATION; AND DEClARING AN EMERGENCY; AND PROVIDING FOR THE BFFBCTIVE DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE. WHEREAS, the governing body', as authorized by Article 827a, Sec. 8, Vernon's Annotated Penal Code, finds that certain priiiB facie speed limits on certain highways are different from what is reasonable or safe and should be altered and theiamediat• preservation of public health and safety requires im- mediate alteration of said prima facie speed limits as hereafter set forth,~· which creates an emergency; NOW THEREFORE, ' BE IT ORDA.INED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CI'l'! OF WBBOCK: SECTION 1. The prima facie speed l~t established by Article a27a, Sec. 8, Subsection 1 (b)~ Vernon's Annotated Penal Code is altered and changed for all vehicles to 55 udles per hour on the following designated highways or street in the corporate limite of the City of Lubbock, Lubbock County, Tens, to-wit: On the South side of DLst 50th Street beginning 0.30 miles from the old Slaton Highway and extending East for 0.40 miles. This is for :D.st bound traffic only. SECTION 2. The City Manager is authorized and directed to cause the Placing of signs so as to clearly define the limits or the prima facie areas set out in this Ordinance. SECTION 3 . An person, firm or corporation violating the prima facie speed limit established by this Ordinance shall upon c~nviction be fined in aey sum nojJ to e~roeed TWO HUNDRED DOIJARS (l200o00) and for subsequent violat- tions within one year thereafter shall be prosecuted as prescribed far such violations by See. 15 of Article 827a, Vernon's Annotated Penal Code. SECTION 4. The City Secretary is authorized and directed to cause the publication of the descriptive eaption of this Ordinance together with the penalty provision as au alternative method of publication as provided by law. SECTION 5. The fact that public necessity and eo~~nience requires that this Ordinance be passed as an emergenct. measure for reasons set forth in the preamble hereof, the rule requiring that no Ordinance shall be final~ passed on the day of its introduction be suspended, and this Ordinance is de- clared to be an emer~ency measure to take effect fo~ and after its passage.
