SPEED LIMIT FR<M 6o MILES PER HOUR TO 55 MIU!S PER HOUR ON TRAT PORTION
OF THE STREETS DESCRIBED AS FO~:
On the West side of State Highway Spur 331 beginning on the South side
of the intersection of 50th Street and extending South for a distance
of 0.300 miles. ·
AUTHORIZING THE PUCING OF SPEED LIMIT SIGNS; PR!:SCRIBING A PENALTY; ~!DING
FOR PUBUCATION; AND DEClARING AN EMERGENCY; AND PROVIDING FOR THE !FFECTIVE

WHEREAS, the governing bod7, as authorized by Article 827a, Seco 8,
Vernon's Annotated Penal Code, finds that certain pri11B facie speed limits on
certain highways are different from what is reasonable or safe and should be
altered and the :iunediat• preservation of public health and safety requires iQ1-
mediate alteration of said prima facie speed limits as hereafter set forth, ·
which creates an emergency; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT OR.D!\INED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF WBBOCX:
.. SECTION 1. The prima facie speed limit established by Article S27a,
Sec. 8, Subsection 1 (b), Vernon's Annotated Penal Code is altered and changed
for all vehicles to 55 miles per hour on the following designated highways
or street in the corporate limits of the City of Lubbock, U!bbock County,
Texas, to-wit:
On the West side of State High'WC4Y Spur 331 beginning on the South side
of the intersection of 50th Street and extending South for a distance
of 0.300 miles. SECTION 2. The City Manager is authorized and directed to cause the
placing of signs so as to clearly define the limits of the prima facie areas
set out in tnis Ordinance.
SECTION 3. An person, firm or corporation violating the prima facie
speed limit established ~ this Ordinance shall upon conviction be fined in
any sum no1i toeroeed TWO HUNDRED DOLlARS ($200.00) and for subsequent viola ..
tions within one year thereafter shall be prosecuted as prescribed for such
violations by Sec. 15 of Article 827a, Vernon's Annotated Penal Code.
SECTION 4. The City Secretary is authorized and directed to cause
the publication of the descriptive eaption of this Ordinance together with
the penalty provision as an alternative method of publication as provided by law.
SECTION 5. The fact that public necessity and eo~enience requires
that this Ordinance be passed as an emergency ·measure for reasons set forth in
the preamble hereof, the rule requiring that no Ordinance shall be final~
p$ssed on the day of its introduction be suspended, and this Ordinance is de-
clared to be an emer~eney measure to take effect for and after its passage.
