'2793 __ ;........, __ AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 18-124{~) OF THE REVISED LUB- OCK CITY CODE SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR A 35 MILES PER HOUR SPEED JMIT ON A CERTAIN PORTION OF FLINT AVENUE; PRESCRIBING A PENALT )ECl.ARING AN EMERGENCY; PRESCRIBING THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS )RDINANCE; AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION. WHEREAS, after engineering and traffic surveys, it has been determined tha it would be expedient and in the public interest, safety, health and welfare to set 'the prima facie speed limit on a certain portion of Flint Avenue at 35 miles per hour; and, WHEREAS, this Ordinance affects the daily operations of the police and traffic departments of the City of Lubbock, which creates an emergency; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT Section 18-124{a) of the revised Lubbock City Code (said Code being effective as of April 27, 1959} is hereby amended to read hereafter as follows: {a) On streets, drives or roadways. It shall be unlawful for the driv·er or any other person in control of a vehicle to oper- ate or permit any such vehicle to be operated on any street, drive, or roadway within the Texas Technological College campus at a rate of speed in excess of twenty miles per hour, except that on both sides of Flint Avenue from a point 1100 feet Southwest of 6th Street along said Flint Avenue to its intersection with 19th Street such vehicle shall not be opera- ted or be permitted to be operated at a rate of speed in excess of thirty-five miles per hour. SECTION 2. Any person, firm, or corporation violating any provision of this! Ordinance shall upon conviction be fined in any sum not to exceed TWO HUNDRED ($200. 00) DOLLARS. SECTION 3. The fact that an emergency exists as set forth in the preamble hereof, the rule requiring two readings of an Ordinance before final passage is hereby suspended, and this Ordinance shall be effective immediately after its passage. SECTION 4. The City Secretary shall cause the publication of this Ordinance once a week for two consecutive weeks in a newspaper regularly published in the City of Lubbock.
