ORDINANCE NO: ~7.31 ------=--03 -I ~-1.959 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING, REVISING AND MAKING ADDITIONS TO THE II PLUMBING CODE OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK AS CODIFIED IN CHAPTER ~~OF THE EXISTING CODE OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK AND AS WILL BE CONTAINED IN CHAPTER Z4 (VOLUME ll) OF THE REVISED CODE OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK WHICH WILL BECOME EFFECTIVE ON THE 27TH DAY o'J APRIL~ 1959, SO AS TO PROVIDE REQUIREMENTS FOR ROUGH IN AND TRA~~~ FOR WASHING MACIUNES ON ALL NEW CONSTRUCTION AND SETTING OUT A TYPICAL AND ACCEPTABLE PLAN FOR SUCH CONSTRUCTION; PROIDB- ITING MIXING OF GALVANIZED PIPE AND COPPER PIPE 'OR) NIPPLE ON WATER SERVICE AND REQUIRING INSTALLATION OF STOP AND WASTE II WITH ATTACHED CUT OFF KEY ROD. UNION WITffiN SIX INCHES; REQUIRINf RISER ON ALL NEW CONSTRUCTION AT KITCHEN SINKS AND PROVIDING A TYPICAL AND ACCEPTABLE PLAN FOR PLUMBING OF VENTED SINK, DISPOSAL AND DISH WASHER; REQUIRING APPROVED INSULATORS WHERE GALVANIZED TANK WATER HEATERS INSTALLED ON COPPER WATER SERVICES; PROVIDING A PENALTY AND FOR PUBLICATION AND THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF TinS ORDINANCE. WHEREAS, the Plumbing Board of the City of Lubbock after study and examination of new developments and changing conditions has submitted its writt~~ suggestions for the improvement of the Plumbing Code to the City Commission; and WHEREAS, the City Commission finds it would be to the public interest, safety, health and general welfare, that certain amendments, revisions and additions be made to the Plumbing Code_ of the City of Lubbock as hereafter set forth in the body of this Ordinance& NOW THEREFORE: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: . SECTION 1. THAT the Plumbing Code of the City of Lubbock now codified as Chapter 2.4 of the existing Code of the City of Lubbock, and as will also be codified as Chapter Z4 (Volume II) of the revised Code of the City of Lubbock which will become effective on the Z7th da~r of April,_ 1959, BE and the same is hereby amended by the addition thereto of the following to be designated as Section 24-53. 1, to-wit: 11Sec. 24-53. 1. Washing Machine Connections. Rough in for washing machines on all new construction shall not be smaller than one and one-half inches (1-1/Z"). Traps shall not exceed 36 inches from vent. The following sketch constitutes a typical and acceptable washing machine connection plan." No Text SECTION 4. THAT Section Z4-SZ of the existing Code of the City of Lubboc and of the revised Code of the City of Lubbock (Volume II} which will become effective on the Z7th day of April~ 1959, BE and the same is hereby amended to read hereafter as follows, to-wit: "Sec. ~4-5Z. Water heaters and automatic gas applicances. All water heaters and automatic gas appliances hereinafte:r installed shall be approved by the American Gas Association and their stamp of approval shall be plairuy1 marked on such heater. The temperature control valve, safety pilot and thermostat shall be approved by the American Gas Associatio All gas-fired range boilers and storage-type water heaters shall be equipped with a thermostat and separate pilot burner; the burner shall be equipped with a safety gas control which will shut off the main burner gas supply if the pilot should be ~ extinguished. No water heater with galvanized tank shall be installed on copper water services unless properly protected by approved insulators. " I SECTION 5. THAT any person, firm or corporation violating this Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction, shall be fined in any sum not more than TWO HUNDRED AND NO/ 100 ($ZOO. 00) DOLLARS. SECTION 6. THAT the City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to cause the publication of the descriptive caption of this Ordinance together with the penalties ae set out in Section 5 of this Ordinance, an alternative method of publication provided in Article 11766-1, Vernon'·s Annotated Civil Statutes of Texas, and this Ordinance shall take effect ten (10) days after its last publication.
