HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 2559-1958 - Amending Sec 2-43 And 2-44 Of The Code Of Lubbock - 08/14/195806 -l 14-\Q ORJ?INANCE NO •. 2559 0'0-.;l~-,q~ AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION Z-43 AND Z-44 OF ~HE CO~ OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK INCREASING THE APPOINTIVE MEMBERSHIP ....._., v-~?-5? ~~I ~ OF THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION FROM SEVEN (7) TO NINE (9); AND REDUCING THE TERMS OF OFFICE FROM FOUR (4) TO THREE (3) YEARS; AND SUBSTITUTING THE DIRECTOR OF PLANNING OR HIS SUCCESSO FOR THE CITY PLANNING ENGINEER AS AN EX OFFICIO MEMBER OF THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION. WHEREAS, both the area and population of the City of Lubbock have increased to an extent not foreseen when the Planning and Zoning Commission was created; and, WHEREAS, this unprecedented growth has greatly increased the work of the Planning and Zoning Commission; and, WHEREAS, the City Commission has found that it will be in the public interest to enlarge the appointive membership of the Planning and Zoning Com- 1 mission from 7 to 9 members and reduce the 4-year term to a 3-year term; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COM.MISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT Section 2-43 of the Code of the City of Lubbock be amended to read as follows: "There is hereby created a City Planning and Zoning Commission to be composed of twelve (12) members; nine (9) of whom shall be residents in, and real property taxpayers of the City. The other three (3) members shaH be the City · Engineer, the City Manager and the Director of Planning, all . of whom shall be ex officio members, acting in an advisory capacity and without the power to vote. 11 SECTION 2. THAT Section 2-44 of the Code of the City of Lubbock be amend to read as follows: 11 The nine (9) appointive members of the City Planning and Zoning Commission shall be appointed by the City Commission. The present seven (7) appointive members of the Planning and Zoning Commission shall serve the remainder of the 4-year terms to which they were appointed, and their positions shall be filled upon expiration of their present terms bX: members appointed for 3-year terms; except those. two tZ) members appointed in November of 1958 to replace the two (2) present members whose terms then expire shall be appointed to 2-year terms; two {2) additional members shall be appointed in November of 1958, .one of whom shall serv.e a 3-year term and the other a Z-year term. They shall serve for their respective terms or until their successors shall have been appointed. At the expira- tion of the terms out-lined above, the appointment of members shall be made on the basis of 3-year terms." AND IT IS SO ORDERED.
