AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING CERTAIN ELECTION OFFICIALS FOR THE
SPECIAL URBAN RENEWAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER Z6,
1957; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY; AND PRESCRIBING THE EFFECTIV
DATE OF TIDS ORDINANCE.
WHEREAS, W. A. Hamilton was appointed Assistant Judge and Ruth Priestle
was appointed clerk, both in voting precient No. 3 of the City of Lubbock, for
a special Urban Renewal Election to be held in the City of Lubbock on November
2.6, 1957, said appointments being shown in ordinance No. 2340 of the City of
Lubbock; and the City Commission further finds that the two above-mentioned
persons have indicated that they will be unable to serve in the capacity herein
stated; and,
WHEREAS, the City Commissi on finds that the public inte rest and general
welfare require that per sons be appointed to fill the vacanci es created by
the inability of the above-mentioned persons to fill their positions as elec tion
officials; and the City Commission further finds that slum and/ or blight
exists in various areas of the City of Lubbock which immediately imperil the
public peace, property, he alth and safety of the citizens of the City of ~ubbock.,
which requires that an Urban Renewal Election be held, and that there is an
immediate need for filling the above-mentioned positions which creates an
emergency; NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SECTION 1. THAT N. P. Holmes is hereby appointed Assistant Judge
for voting precinct No. 3 of the City of Lubbock and Joan Erwing is hereby
appointed Clerk for voting precinct No. 3 of the City of Lubbock# both of said
persons to s&rve as election officials for a Special Urban Renewal Election
which will be held in the City of Lubbock on November 261 1957.
SECTION 2. Whereas, public necessity requires that this ordinance be
passed as an emergency measure as defined in the preamble of this ordinance,
the rule requiring that ordinances be read two times before passage is hereby
suspended and this ordinance shall become effective on November 14, 1957.
AND IT IS SO ORDERED.
