HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 2160-1957 - Granting Permission For The Controlled And Supervised Burning Of Weeds - 03/14/1957c r ORDINANCE NO. 2160 AN ORDINANCE GRANTING PERMISSION FOR THE CONTROLLED AND SUPERVISED BURNING OF WEEDS IN AN AREA HEREINAFTER DESCRIBED IN THE BODY OF THIS ORDINANCE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the City Commi.ssion finds that in an area hereinafter described in t ile body of this ordinance~ tum.ble weeds and various other types of weeds hav grown in wild profusion to the heighth in some instances of several feet tall, and the City Commission further finds that such tumble weeds and various other weeds constitute a fire hazard imperiling the lives and safety ol the. citizen of the City of Lubbock, and, WHEREASt the City Commission finds that the elimination of such a fire ha?..ard should be immediately accomplished for the good of the public safety~ healt~ and welfare, and the City Commission further finds that immediate public necessity requires that this ordinance be passed as an emergency measure NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION l. THAT Fields and Lewis Construction Company and E. and R. Lumber Company, both of Lubbock, Texas-. are hereby granted permission to burn tumble weeds ~d various other weeds in the following described area located in the City of Lubbock. Lubbock County, Texas: An area which is bounded on the North by 50th Street~ on the South by 66th Street, on the East by College Avenue, on the West by Indiana Avenue. Such burning of tumble weeds and various other weeds shall be done in a cautious and safe manner with due care being used not to endanger the lives and/or property of persons living in the vicinity or having any interest in property located in the vicinity. Such burning of tumble weeds and various other weed.s shall be subject to auch precautionary mea•ures as the Fire Chief of the City of Lubbock may prescribe. SECTION 2.. THAT the public safety, health~ and immediate danger of a public calamity which might result from a fire in the above-described area require that the rule requiring two readings of an ordinance be suspende~ this ordinance is declared to be an emergency measure and shall be effective immediately upon its passage.
