oRDINANcE NO. 1547
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLATION OF "STOP'' SIGNS
BY THE CITY TRAFFIC ENGINEER AT THE INTERSECTIONS AND LOCA-
TIONS PROVIDED AND ESTABLISHED AND DESIGNATED IN THE BODY OF
THIS ORDINANCE; REPEALING ALL PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICt
HEREWITH; PROVIDING A PENALTY; AUTHCf.RIZING PUBLICATION; AND
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that a .public necessity exists
for the esta.blishinent of Stop Signs at the intersections and locations. n&%ned in
the body of this ordinance; and,
WHEREAS, the enact.tnent of this ordinance is necessary to preserve
the public peace and safety, requiring ~he suspension of all rules providing for
the several readings of an ordinance before final passage thereof, constituting
an emergency; NOW, THEREFORE~
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COM:MISSION OF '!HE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SECTION 1. That the City Traffic Engineer is hereby authorized and
directed to place Stop Signs at the following intersection• and locations:
Both sides of Ninth Street at Avenue W
Both, sides of 14th Street at Avenue N
Both sides of 14th Street at Avenue 0
Both sides of 2011h Street at Avenue W
Both sides of 21st Street at A v enue W
SECTION 2. That any per~on, firm or corporation violating any of the
provisions of Article 670ld, requiring vehicles to obey and abide by Stop Signs
lawfully erected by authorization of the governing body of a city. or of Ordinance
No. 890 of the City of Lubbock shall, upon conviction. be fined in any sum not
exceeding Two Hundred Dollars ($200).
SECTION 3. That all parts of ordinances conflicting with the provisions
hereof are hereby repealed insofar as such c.onflict exists; provided, however,
that the provisions of this ordinance shall never be construed as repealing or
superseding any ordinance authorizing the establishment of traffic control
signs and devices at places and intersections not hereinabove expressly des-
cribed and defined.
SECTION 4. That the City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed
to cause publication of the descriptive caption of this ordinance. together with
the penalty provision, as provided by law.
SECTION 5. That the increased traffic conditions at the intersections
and places described in Section 1 (One} hereof require that this ordinance be
passed and made effective after its unanimi>US passage at first reading before
the City Commission for the immediate preservation of the public peace and
safety, and all rules requiring the several readings of this ordinance are hereby
suspended, and this ordinance is declared to be an emergency measure and
shall take effect as hereinabove provided.
