HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 1516-1953 - Authorizing The Installation Of Stop Sign By The City Engineer - 12/22/1953Copy 12-29-53 to Ci t y Att Traffic Engr. 8c ?olice Dep ) \:).-~-\953 ORDINANCE NO. 1516 _......._ ____ _ AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLATION OF usTOP11 SIGNS BY THE CITY TRAFFIC ENG.INEER AT THE INTERSECTIONS AND LOCA- TIONS PROVIDED AND ESTABLISHED AND DESIGNATED IN THE BODY OF THIS ORDINANCE• REPEALING ALL PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING A PENALTY; AUTHORIZING PUBLICATION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that a public necessity exists for the establisbm.ent of Stop Signs at the intersections and locations named in the body of this ordinance• and, WHEREAS, the enactment of this ordinance is necessary to prea·erve , the public peace and safety, requiring the suspension of all rules providing for t he several readings of an ordinance before final passage thereof, constituting . an emergency; NOW, THEREFORE, • BE. IT ORDAlNED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTIO~ 1. That the City Traffic Engineer is hereby authorized and directed to place Stop Signs at the following intersections and locations: Both sides of First Street at Canton Avenue Both sides of First Street at Boston Avenue Both sides of First Place at Boston Avenue Both sides of Canton Avenue at First Street SECTION z. That any personr firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of Article 6-70ld, requiring vehicles to obey and abide by Stop Signs lawfully erected by authorization of the governing body of a city, or of Ordi- nance No. 890 of the .City.of .l..l.lbbock shall, upon conviction, be fined in any sum not exceeding Two Hundred Dollars ($ZOO). 1 SECTION 3. That all parts of ordinances conflicting with the provisions hereof are hereby repealed insofar as such conflict exists; provided, however, that the provisions of this ordinance shall never be construed as repealing or superseding any ordinance authorizing the establishment of traffic control signs and devices at places and intersections not hereinabove expressly described and defined. · SECTION 4. That the City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to cause publication of the descriptive caption of this ordinance, together with the penalty provision, as provided by law. SECTION 5. That the increased traffic conditions at the intersections and places described in Section 1 (One) hereof require that this ordinance be passed and made effective after its unanimous passage at first reading before the City Commission for the immediate preservation of the public peace and safety, and all rules requiring the several readings of this ordinance are hereby suspended. and this ordinance is declared tQ be an em.ergency measure and shall take effect as hereinabove provided.
