HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 1437-1953 - Repealed By Ordinance 4656 - 08/13/1953I T 1437 •- Repealed by Ordinance No. 4656 06-13-1953 ORDINANCE NO. 1437 ----- AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23 OF ORDINANCE NO. 564, AS AMENDED BY ORDINANCE NO. 1414, THEREBY CHANGING PARKING METERS NOS. 14·10•17 AND 14·10-19 ON THE SOUTHSIDE OF THE 1000 BLOCK OF 14TH STREET, AND PARKING METERS NOS. ·I-13-1, I-13-3, 1•13-5 AND 1·13-7 ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE 1300 BLOCK OF TEXAS AVE- NUE, FROM ONE-NICKEL, ONE-HOUR PARKING TO 24-MINUTE, TWO- PENNY OR ONE-NICKEL PARKn'JG; REPEALING ALL CONFLICTING ORDIN- ANCES; PROVIDING A PENALTY AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the City Commission has, as a result of changed traffic conditions, adopted the recommendations of the City Traffic Engineer to change certain one-hour parking meters to 24-m.inute parking meters; NOW, THERE- FORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. That Section 23 of Ordinance No. 564, as amended by Ordinance No. 1414, is hereby amended so as to change and modify the length of time parking is permitted on the south side of the 1000 Block of 14th Street in Parking Meter Spaces Nos. 14-10-17 and 14-10-19, and on the east side of the 1300 Block of Texas Avenue in Parking Meter Spaces Nos. I-13-1, I•13-3, I-13-5 and 1-13-7, so as to prohibit parking for a longer cbntinuous period than twenty-four (24) minutes. SECTION 2. That the City Traffic Engineer is hereby authorized and directed to install and place in operation 24-minute, two-penny or one-nickel parking meters at the following locations: Meters Nos. 14-10-17, 14-10-19, I-13-1, I-13·3, 1•13-5 and 1·13·7. SECTION 3. That part of the provision of any ordinance or order in conflict with this ordinance is hereby repealed. SECTION 4. Any person, firm or corporation who shall violate, aid or abet the violation of any provision of this ordinance shall, upon conviction, be fined in any sum not to exceed Two Hundred Dollars ($200 ). SECTION 5. The City Secretary is hereby directed to cause publication of the descriptive caption of this ordinance together with the penalty clause, as an alternative method as provided by law. SECTION 6. That the enactment of this ordi~ance, being necessary to the public safety and to provide for a greater use of the public streets and due to the changing traffic conditions, is declared to be an emergency measure, thereby creating a public necessity that the rule requiring proposed ordinances to be presented at two {2) separate meetings be dispensed with; and this ordinance shall be effective from the date of publication as herein provided.
