WHEREAS, the City Traffic Engineer has found that most businesses in
the City of Lubbock open at 8:00 A.M. and close at 5s00 P.M.; and,
WHEREAS, the present parking meter times do not correspond with the
business hourst ~hereby creating a crowded and conjested condition of certain
streets in certain sections in the City of Lubbock; and,
.WHEREAS, the City Traffic Engineer recommends that the parking meter
times be changed to correspond with the business hours; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMrrSSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOOKs
SECTION 1. That Paragraph 2 (two) of Section 2 (two) be amended to read
as follows:
When parking mater · spaces are indicated by metal markers
upon the surface of the streets in said parking meter zones,
as herein provided, and when parking meters are installed
adjacent to or adjoining said respective parking spaces, no
vehicle shall remain parked within any of said spaces within the
zone or upon any of the portions of the streets described in
Section 23 of this ordinance for a longer continuous period than
sixty .(60) minutes at any time between the hours of 8:00 A.M.
and 5:00 P.M. on any day except Sundays and holidays officially
designated b,y the City Commission of the City of Lubbock, provided
hovever, that in al\f parking meter zone provided for by this
ordinance or any amendment hereto wherein the time limit
designated for any parking zone is the time less than sixty (60)
minutes, such lesser time shall be the legal limit of time which
a vehicle may be parked continuously in such parking space.
SECTION 2. That Section 14 (fourteen) o£ Ordinance No. 564 be SJOOnded
to read as follows:
Section 14. That it shall be unlawful and an offense for any
person, firm or corporation operating a vehicle to cause or
permit to be parked al\fVehicle, whether occupied or unoccupied,
upon any portion of the streets w the City of Lubbock designated
in this ordinance as a parking meter zone, between the hours of
8s00 A.M. and 5:00P.M., exce.pt within the parking meter spaces

designated by the marks and lines as parking meter spaces
adjacent to or adjoining said parking meter. This provision
of this ordinance shall not apply on Sundays or holidays
officially designated as such by the City Commission of the
City of Lubbock.
SECTION 3. That Section 15 (fifteen) of Ordinance No. 564 be amended to
read as follows:
Section 15. That it shall be unlawful and an offense for any

standing or parkecgupon any of the streets within any of said,...
parking spaces within the parking meter zone designated in

tinuous period than is authorized by the governing body or thtt

at a tima between the hours of StOO A.M. and 5,00 P.~ of any
d~ except Sunday and any holiday officially designated b.y the
City Commission of the City of Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas.
SECTION 4. That Section 16 (sixteen) of Ordinance No. 564 be anended to
read as follows:
Section 16. That it shall be unlawful and a.n offense for an;y
person, firm or corporation opemting a vehicle to park or permit
to be parked or remain standing aey-vehicle upon any street
within any parking meter space in the C?-ty of f,ubbock, 1'~xat3, as
d$signated in this ordinance, between the hours of StOO A.M. ana
5: 00 P.M. upon any day except Sunday and any holiday officially
designated by the City Commission of the City of Lubbock unless
the person in charge of said vehicle shall immediately, upon
entering said parking space, deposit in the parking m~~r
adjaqent W, adjoining or alongside of said parking spaqe, coins
of the United States of America of such denomina.tionl:l a8 are
required by this ordinance or any amendment hereto, ,thereby ctaus-
ing such parking lll&ter to display a sign or signal for the
period of legal parking within said parking meter zone.

SECTION 5. That the City Traffic Engineer BE, and he is hereby authorized
and directed to make all the necessary changes on each parking mater to indicate
the operating time shown in Section 15 {fifteen) of Ordinance No. 564, as amended
by Section 3 (three) of this ordinance.
SOOT ION 6. That all provisions or portions of any ordinance in conflict
th the provisions of this ordinance, insofar as the same relates to the operating
time of parking neters, are hereb.y modified and shall be construed consistent with
the provisions of this ordinance, provided that nothing herein shall be construed
as affecting any part of Ordinance No. 564, except as herein expressly provided.
SECTION 7. The City Secretary is directed to publish the descriptive
caption of this ordinance, together with the penalty clause, as provided by law.
SECTION 8. That Section 22 (twenty-two) of Ordinance No. 564 be amended
to read as follows:
Section 22. Any person, firm or corporation who shall violate
or abet the violation of any provision of this ordinance shall,
upon conviction, be fined in any sum not exceeding $200 .oo.
