ORDINANCE NO . 1327 -----
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLATION OF SIGNS BY THE CITY TRAFFIC
ENGINEER REQUIRING VEHICLES TO YIELD THE RIGHT-OF-WAY AT CERTAIN INTERSECTIONS;
DESCRIBING SUCH SIGNS; PROVIDING FOR THE SPEED LIMIT OF VEHICLES APPROACHING SUCH
SIGNS; AUTHORIZING PLACING OF SUCH SIGNS AT THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS: THREE (J)
SIGNS, BOTH SIDES OF TEXAS AVENUE AT EIGHTH STREET; TWO (2) SIGNS, BOTH SIDES OF
VERNON AVENUE AT SECOND PLACE; TWO (2) SIGNS, BOTH SIDES OF JOLIET.AVENUE AT

SIDE OF 24TH STREET AT SLIDE ROAD; REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 103.3 AND .ALL OTHER
ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN COI~FLICT 1;1EREWITH; PROVIDING A PENALTY;
AUTHORIZING PUBLICATION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SECTION 1. That the City Traffic Engineer is hereby authorized to
place signs, requiring vehicles to yield the(right-of-way to other vehicles a~
intersections in the City of Lubbo~ after ~h locations have first bean
approved b,y the City CBmmission of the City of ~b~•
SECTION 2. That the signs referred to in Section 1 (One) of this
Ordinance shall bear the inscription "Yield Right-of-Way" with the letters in
black and the background in white. The word "Yield n shall be reflectorized in
yellow. That the sign shall be keystone shape, twenty-four inches by twenty-four
C inches (24" x 24") in size, and shall be plij~i;i" ~the right side of the stlreet
three feet (3') from the side curb and fifteen fee~ (15') from the ~rb of the
intersecting street, or if not practicable that the sign be placed at this location

then it shall be placed at the nearest practicable location to attract the atten-
tion of the approaching operators of vehicies.
SECTION 3. The City Traffic Engineer is authorized and directed to
place signs provided qy this Ordinance &t the following lo~tions, namely:
Three (3) signs, both sides of Texas Avenue at Eight~ Stree~
Two (2) signs, both sides of Vernon Avenue at Second laa,.
Two (2) signs, bath sides of D"oliet .Avenue at .36th Street:
Two (2) signs, both sides of 18th Street at Quaker Avenue
Two (2) signs, both sides of 17th Street at Quaker Avenue
Two (2) signs, both sides of 16th Street at Quaker Avenue
One (1) sign, West side of 15th Street a~Quaker Avenue
One (1) sign, East side of 21st Street at Slide Road
One (1) sign, East side of 24~ Street at Slide Road
SECTION 4. The City Traffic Engineer is further aqthorized eft4 d1~dted,
when an emergency requires immediate placement of suQ9 signs, to direo~ th~ Oh~ef
of Police or other proper employee of the City of Lubbock to place such ~~
at intersections where an emargeney exists due to excessive traffio hamard~ which
could not have been reasonably foreseen.
~~ON 5. That the driver, operator. ~~ person in control of any
vehicle approaching a~ such right-of-way sign shall redu~ or cause the speed of
the V>ehicle tO' 'be reducyd to a maximum of ten miles per hour, and shall yield the
right-of-~ay t Q all vehicles approaching from the right or left on the intersecting
street when such vehi~es are so close to the interse~ion as to constitute an
immediate hazard.

SECTION 6. That OrQinan~'-No. 1033 is hereby expressly repealed and
that all other Ordanances o~ part~ ot Ordinancea in conflict herewith are hereb,y
repealed.
SECTION 7. Any person, firm, partnership or corporation who shall
violate any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be 'deemed guilty of a
misdemeanor and upon conviction thereon shall be fined in any sum not to exceed
$200.00. .
SECTION 8. The Gi~ Secretary is hereby directed to cause publication
of the descriptive caption of this Ordinance as permitted by law.
SECTION 9. That the enactment of this Ordinance, being imperative for
the preservation of the public peace, health and safety of the City of Lubbock
and the inhabitants thereof and to provide a greater use of the public streets,
that the provisions of this Ordin~Q~ ,be put into ~ f.oree and effect ,. thereby
creating a public necessity that ~he rule requiring propoa~d Ordlnances to be
presented at two (2) separate meetings be dispensed with and this Ordinance shall
be effect.ive from the date of publication a.s herein provided.
