AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING ANY PERSON OPERATING,• DRIVING
OR IN CONTROL OF ANY VEHICLE, WHEN TRAVELING NORTH ON COLLEGE
A VENUE IN THE CITY OF LUBBOCK FROM TURNING LEFT ONTO NINE-
TEENTH STREET AND PROCEEDING IN A WESTERLY DIRECTION ON NINE-
TEENTH STREET; PROVIDING THAT THE CffiEF OF POLICE IS AUTHORIZED
AND DIRECTED TO ATTACH A SIGN BEARING THE WORDS "NO LEFT TURN"
ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE MECHANICAL TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVISE~
AND TO ERECT OTHER SI<iNS CONSISTENT WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THIS
ORDINANCE; PROVIDING A PENALTY; REPEALING THAT PART OF ORDIN-
ANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND AUTHORIZING PUBLICATION.
WHEREAS, traffic surveys have reflected that a very small number of
motor yehicles traveling North on College Avenue during a twenty-four {24) hour
period turn l eft onto Nineteenth Street, and •
.. WHEREAS, College Avenue south of Nineteenth Street is narrow and1
carri es a large number of vehicles which have been driven south on College
Avenue through the intersection, as well as a large number of vehicles that have
turned off of Nineteenth Street onto College Avenue and which proceed south on
the said street, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: .,
SECTION 1. THAT it shall hereafter be unlawful for any person
operating, driving or in control of any motor vehicle to allow~ permit or suffer
said vehicle , when traveling north on College Avenue in the City of Lubbock, to
be turned left onto Nineteenth Street and proceed in a westerly direction in and
on the said Nineteenth Street. ·
SECTION 2. The Chief of Police is authorized and directed to place
a sign bearing the words ttNo Left Turn11 at the bottom of mechanical traffic
control devise facing south, and to erect other signs consistent with the pro-
visions of this ord~nance.
SECTION 3. Any person who shall permit or suffer any vehicle
operated, driven or controlled by him to be turned left after proceeding North
on College Avenue at the intersection of College Avenue and Nineteenth Street
onto Nineteenth Street and proceed in a westerly direction shall, upon convic-
tion, be fined in any sum not exceeding Two Hundred Dollars ($200). ·
SECTION 4. All portions of other ordinances in conflict with the pro-
visions of this ordinance, insofar as such provisions apply to the motor vehicles
traveling north on College Avenue and turning left in a westerly direction on
Nineteenth Street, are hereby repealed.
SECTION s. The City Secretary is her eby directed to cause publication
of the descriptive caption of this ordinance, together with the penalty clause
{being Section 3) as an alternative provided by law.
