AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 994 DESIGNATING HOLIDAYS
FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR, SUBJECT TO APPROVAL OF DEPARTMENT
HEADS AND STATING CONDITIONS UNDER WinCH, AND WHEN, SUCH HOLI-
DAYS ARE TO BE OBSERVED, SO THAT SAID ORDINANCE SHALL READ AS
FOLLOWS:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
~~ y SECTION 1. THAT, the following days are hereby declared Holidays for

7. Any other Holiday designated by the Governing Body.
B. When any Holiday listed above falls on Sunday, the following
business day shall be considered as a Holiday.
The designation of the :foregoing days as Holidays shall not be construed as
entitling any such employee to observe such Holiday, or the right to be absent
from his duty on the dates specified, except as hereinafter provided.
SECTION 2. THAT, Department heads shall authorize Holidays on the dates
above set out unless to do so will unreasonably interfere with the necessary pub-
lic service being rendered by such Departm.ent. Any employee required to be on
duty on any such Holiday shall be entitled to a day off within thirty (30} days from
such Holiday, and at a time satisfactory to the Department Head.
SECTION 3. THAT, when employees working on a shift arrangement in the
Fire, Police, Water, Electric and Sewage Disposal Departments have been em-
ployed by the City of Lubbock for six (6) months or more, in lieu of the above
Holidays, the Department Head may arrange compensating days off at the end of
vacation periods, by providing one (1) day off for every sixty (60) days in a cal~n
dar year. These provisions shall apply to all such employees, whether they are
on or off duty by reason of any shift arrangement.
SECTION 4._ THAT, this Ordinance shall be effective January 1, 1951.
AND IT IS SO ORDERED.
