HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 945-1949 - Annexing An Area Not In City Limits - 11.29.1949II-79-1949 Z _ FDINANCE NO, 945 1 �� 1 -9 4.9 AN ORDINANCE ANNEXING AN AREA AND TERRITORY ABUTTING AND ADJACENT TO CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION AND FINAL PASSAGE UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF SECTION 3A, ARTICLE I, CHAPTER I OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK AND EXTENDING THE CITY LIMITS TO INCLUDE SAID AREA DESCRIBED BY METES AND BOUNDS AS FOLLOWS, TO WIT: AREA NINE -A. BEGINNING AT THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF SURVEY 6, BLOCK B; THENCE SOUTH FOLLOWING THE OLD TAHOKA ROAD ABOUT 1350 FEET TO POINT IN 38TH STREET; THENCE WEST ABOUT 1640 FEET FOLLOWING 38TH STREET TO THE S UTHEAST CORNER OF CLUTTER 2ND ADDITION; THENCE WEST ABOUT 3580 FEET TO A POINT IN EAST BOUNDARY LINE OF HIGHWAY NUMBER 87; THENCE NORTH FOLLOWING THE EAST BOUND Y LINE HIGHWAY NUMBER 87i.ABOUT 3150 FEET TO A POINT IN SOUTH BOUNDARY LINE OF F,W & D.C. RY. RIGHT-OF-WAY AND WHICH POINT IS AN INTERSECTION WITH THE CITY LIMIT LI ; THENCE IN A SOUTHEASTERLY DIRECTION FOLLOWING THE CITY LIMIT LINE AND SOUTI BOUNDARY LINE OF THE F.W. & D.C. RY. RIGHT-OF-WAY ABOUT 5450 FEET TO A POINT IN THE EAST BOUNDARY LINE OF SURVEY 3, BLOCK B; THENCE SOUTH ABOUT 115 FEET TO THE PLA E OF BEGINNING. WHEREAS, a largegroup of property owners and others residing within t e hereinafter described area, or owning property within said area, have peti ioned the Governing Body of the City of Lubbock to annex and include said area within the corporate limits of the City of Lubbock and the Governing Bodyis 0f t e opinion that said area is in line of development, growth and expansion being exper enced by the City of Lubbock, and that the inclusion within the corporate limits and annexation of said area is in the public interest, and said Governing Body being empowered by Section 3A, Article I, Chapter I of the Charter to annex by O}�dinance additional territories lying adjacent to the City Limits and said area and territory herein described is adjacent to and abuts the city limits of the City of Lubbock, THEREFORE, i BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK SECTION 1. That the hereinafter described area and territory be and the same is hereby annexed to and included within the corporate limits of the City of Lubbock, said area being described by metes and bounds as follows: AREA NINE -A. BEGINNING at the Northeast corner of Survey 6, Block B; THENCE South following the old Tahoka Road about 1350 feet to a point in 38th Street;' THENCE West about 1640 feet following 38th Street to the Southeast corner of Clutter 2nd Addition; THENCE West about 3580 feet to a point in the East boundary line of Highway Number 87; THENCE North following the East boundary line Highway Number 87 about 3150 feet to a point in south boundary line of F.W. & D.C. Ry. right -of -way and which point is an intersection with the city limit line; THENCE in a Southeasterly direction following the city limit line and South boundary line f the F.W. & D.C. Ry, right-of-way about 5450 feet to a point in the East boundary line of Survey 3, Block B; THENCE South about 115 feet to the place of beginning. SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall be forthwith published in a daily newspaper published in the City of Lubbock, Texas, one time, and shall not be thereafter finally acted upon until at least thirty (30) days have elapsed after such publicati and if finally passed in its present form the boundary limits of the City of Lubbock hall thereby be fixed to include the area, territory and extension described in Section 1 of this Ordinance. On motion of Commissioner Hufstedler, seconded by Commissioner Wh:Ltes:�d.e, and carried by an affirmative majority vote of the City of Lubbock, this Ordinance was ordered to be published the City Commission this the 21st day of October, 1949.
