AN ORDINANCE AMENDING PARTS OF CHAPTERS 9, 14, 17, 19, 20.
and 23 OF ORDINANCE NO. 478, KNffiYN AS THE BUILDING CODE OF THE CITY
OF LUBBO.eK., TE.X.A~, BY MAKING THE FOLLO\IHNG ADDITIONAL RE'<t.UIREIVIENTS
ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF SMALL HOUSES:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
LUBBOCK, TEXaS:
Sec. 1.
Where more than one residence, tenant house or servant house
is erected of wood construction or moved on any building site, there
shall be not less than 3000 square feet of lot space for each building
and the same shall be so arranged as to give not less than 10 feet of
open space between buildings. All buildings to be properly ventilated
so as to give three changes of air per hour, and in no case shall the
ventilation to said building be less than the State requirement.
Sec. 2.
Any building built or moved on rear of lot, ·and not more than
12 feet wide and more than 24 feet in length, or 300 square feet in
area, may have for its foundation, concrete or brick piers or wood
posts set in ground 12 inches deep, and placed not to exceed 4 feet
on center piers, and post must be not less than 8 inches in diameter~
Sec. 3.
All sills must be not less than 2 in. X 6 in. box sills.
Floor joists must be not less than 2 X 6 placed 24 inches in center
well braced in center of space, and have not less than 12 inches clear-
ance under all joist. Walls may be framed with 1 inch stock or tongue
and groomed material. If of 1 X 12, must h a ve 1 X 4 batting or strips.
Sec. 4.
Roofs and ceiling must be framed with not less than 2 X 4
... material placed 24 inches on center. Roof covering to be not less than
composition, asphalt, paper or wood shingles.
Sec. s.
Buildings of this type may be increased in size not to exceed
16 feet in width and not more than 30 feet in length if walls are framed
with not less than 1 X 12 solid sheeted and covered with 1 inch stock
siding material.

Sec. 6.
Buildings of the type herein described may be placed on
front of lot if structure when completed will compare in construction
to existing buildings in same residential district, but in no case
_/ shall such structure be placed on front of lots in new residential
districts. When placed on rear of lot, structure must not be closer
than 80 feet to Street line on which structure faces.
sec. 7.
It is hereby required that any and all trailor houses or small
portable houses built on the trailer type will not be permitted to
be built or moved ~n any residential district or on any vacant lot
used for resident purposes, servants house or tenant house, or lodging
place within the City limits of the C~ty of Lubbock, Texa s. ~ •

One story frame row houses shall never have more than four
living quarters unless buildings comply with the requirements set forth
for apartment houses as ~escribed in the Building Code or Ordinance
No. 478.
Passed and Approved first reading, on the 24th day of
February, A. D. 1938.
Passed and approved second and final reading, on the lOth
day of March, A. D. 1938.
