FOR THE REGULATION AND CONTROL OF TAXICAB AND BUSSES FOR HIRE
WITHIN THE CITY OF LUBBOCK; RE~UIRING PERMITS AND SURETY BONDS
OR INSURANC~ POLICIES; MAKING IT UNLAWFUL TO OPERATE WITHOUT, AND
PRESCRIBING PENALTY, AND REP~ALING ORDINANCE NO. 466.
BE IT ORDAINED BY 1R~ CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
1. That it shall be unlawful for any person, firm, partnership or
corporation, to operate a taxicab or bus, for the transportation of
passengers for hire, wi t hin the corporate limits of the City of
Lubbock, without first having obtained from said City Commission
of Lubbock a permit to run said taxicab or bus.
2. No permit shall be issued to any person to operate a bus or
taxicab in the City of Lubbock for carrying passengers for hire,
unless be be twenty-one years of age and of good moral characte r.
3. No permit to run or operate any taxicab or bus shall be issued
to any person, partnership, firm or corporation, unless the City
Commission shall, after investigation, be of t h e opinion that
there is a public need for such taxi~ab 'or bus service.
4. No person, firm, or corporation shall b e issued a permit to
run and operate a taxicab or bus within the city limits of the City
of Lubbock until such person, firm, or corporation, shall first 1 file with the City Commission of Lubbock, Texas, a surety 2~~~~
or an insurance policy i~ some standard insurance company~
business in Texas, on each and every cab or taxicab operated, said
bond or policy to indemnify eve ry person against damage to person
or property, as a result of negligent or unlawful operation of
such bus or taxicab, wh i ch policy s h ould provide for the loss or
damage of propert¥ of anyone other than the a ssured in the amount
of One 'I'housand (11, 000.00) Dollars; for bodily injury to or death
of one person in any one accident in the amount of Five Thousand
,$5,000.00) Dollars; for bodily injury to or death of more than
one person in any one accident, in the amount of Ten Thousand
($10,000.00) Dollars, provided that if any one person shall ope rate
a fleet of as many as ten cars, be may in lieu of a bond for each
car file suc h a policy or bond of $25,000.00, and if operating more
than ten o a rs and not more t h an twenty-five he s h all file a policy
or bond for $50,000.00.
5. Provided that if any person, partnership, firm, or ooDporation
shall haul passengers or operate a taxicab, wi t hin the City limits
of Lubbock, without first obtaining a permit, or filing such policy
or bond, shall be fined in a sum not less that $50.001 nor more th ~1
$100.00, and each passenger hauled shall constitute a separate
offense.
6. The City Commission of th e City of Lub b ock shall have th e
right to cancel any p e rmit at any time after hearing on due notice
to the holder thereof, on charges of drunkenness or handling or
transporting intoxicating liquor, or any other misconduct on the
part of such permit holder. ~

7. Ir any section or part of this act be held to be invalid, void,
or unconstitutional, it shall not effect the validity of the re-
maining portion of this act.

8. No permit shall be issued for longer term than one year~ and
the insurance policy or surety bond shall be kept in force for
the length of the permit and no permit shall be transferable with-
out the consent of the City Commission.
9. Ordinance No. 466 is hereby in all things rep~aled •
10. The City Secretary shall keep record of permits, insurance
policies, surety bonds, etc.
