ORDINANCE LEVYING POLL TAX OF $1.00 EACH ON EVERY MALE AND
FEMALE PERSON BETWEEN THE AGES OF TWENTY ONE AND SIXTY YEARS OF AGE
LIVING IN THE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, TEXAS~ ON JANUARY 1ST,
1926: EXCEPTING .THEREFBOM ~ERSONS EXEMPT UNDER THE CONSTITUTION AND
LAWS OF TEXAS AND . OF IJ1RE UNITED STATES: REQUIRING PAYMENT OF POLL
TAX WITH PROPE:aTY TAX, EXCEPT THAT ON HOMESTEAD: PROVIDING FOR PAY-
MENT OF POLL UX WITHOUT PAD4ENT PROPERTY TAX: AND MAKING POS,SESSION
OF POLL TAX RECEIPT, OR PROOF AS REQUIRED BY STATUTE, SHoriNG PAY-
MENT OF POLL TAX BEFORE F~RUARY leT. 1927 1 AS A QUALIFICATION FOR
VOTING IN .CITY ELEOTIONS .THEREAFTER TO FEBRUARY 1ST, 1928.
BE IT ORDAINED :BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK;
(l)That th~re .ia hereby .le~ied a poll of tax of one dollar eaoh on
every male and female person between the ages of twenty one and
sixty living in the limits of the city of Lubbock on January lat.
1926. -(2) That there shall be excepted from the foregoing levy all
persons exempt under the constitution and laws of the stat~.
(3) That the said poll tax shall b~ paid with the property tax.
exoept homestead.
(4) That the poll tax may be paid without payment of property tax.
' (5) Possession of poll tax reoeipt. or proof as required by the
laws of Texas. showing payment of said poll tax before ~ebruary
let. 1927. is hereby made a qualification for voting in oity
elections thereafter to Februar,y let, 1928.
(6) If any olause, sentence, paragraph or provision of this
ordinance shall be held invalid it shall not impair the validity
of the remainder of the ordinance.
