HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 284-1925 - Regulating Traffic On The Public Highways. - 02/12/19250RDINANCE NO. 284 AN ORDINANCE to regulate and control traffic on the public highways of the City, following an alar.m of fire, fixing a penalty for violation of this Ordinance, and declaring an emergency, account of present danger. BE IT ORDAINED by the City Commdssion of the City of Lubbock, Texas. Section 1. Whenever an alarm of fire is sounded by the Fire Department of this City, all vehicles on the public highways in the City shall immediatel proceed to the nearest curb where parking is not forbidden, and remain so park until such fire apparatus as may be going to such fire shall have passed such vehicle, or gone another way. Section 2. NO VEHICLE shall follow any fire apparatus, when same is proceeding in answer to an alarm of fire, nearer than 500 feet, and no vehicle shall, at any time approach nearer than 220 feet, of any fire, or apparatus, when such apparatus is in use for extinguishing fires, except the owner of the pro~erty immediately endangered may approach same but not nearer than 100 feet. Section 3. ANY PERSON violating any part of this ordinance, shall, upon conviction, be fined any sum not less than $5.00, nor more than $200.00 •• Section 4. The fact that many persons driving vehicles follow the fire apparatus when same is proceeding to a fire, thus endangering life, and aPP- roach the fir~ and apparatus so closely as to hinder the extinguishment, creat an emer9ency and public necessity that the rule of the Charter, requiring Ordinances to be read at more than one meeting before passage be, and the same is~ hereby suspended, and this Ordinance enacted at the meeting of its intro- duction, and it is so ordered.
