An ordinance. submitting to the voters of this City at an election
to be held on the ~day of August 1923. whereby the qualified voters
of this City may determine if Section 1. of Article 7. of the Charter
of said City may be so amended as to penmit a levy of 2t% in one year
of the taxab~e value of property subject to taxation. naming the Offic-
ers to hold Sdift election and providing the place. and providie~ for
notices ot ~~ and declaring an emergency on account of insufficient
revenues to properly care for the needs of the City.
Be it ordained by the City Council (Commission) of the City of
Lubbock. T;xas.
Section 1. There is hereby called an election in this City to be
held at ;,te Of fice of4?(,~ R.,~-in said City on the
_;;l 0-... day of August 1923. at which the duly qualified voters may
determine if Section 1. of Article 7. of the City Charter. adepted by
vote. December 27. 1917. shall h reafter read as follows:
"Sectionl. Said City shall. in addition, be authorized to levy
and collect such taxes as may be recuired for the payment of interest
and creation of sinking fund on any bonded indebtedne .~s. existing or
created by said City under the law and this Chart er. provided that the
total of all taxes levied for any one year shall not exceed at% of the
taxable value of property subject to taxation in this City".

Section 3. Certified copies by Mayor and City Secretary published
thirty days before said election shall be deemed sufficient notice there-
of. and the City Secretary shall mail to each qualified voter, as shown
by his rolls on January ~1, 1923, a copy of Section 1, Article 7, as
proposed to be amended.
