HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 201-1921 - Defining The Fire Limits Of The City Of Lubbock - 09/27/1921a i Ordinance No. �Cl AN QRDINUCK fixing and defining the fire limits of the City of Lubbock, Texas; providing that only structures of a certain standard with reference to inflamability shall be built, erected or constructed therein, that no building not reaching such standard shall be moved, in or within such fire limits; pro- hibiting repairs upon buildings now within such limits when the repairs reach a certain percentage of the value of such building sought to be repaired; providing the manner of determining it structures within such district are detrimental to public safety, and for the mode of compelling the removal thereof; repealing all ordinances and parts of or- dinances in conflict herewith; providing penalties for the violation of any part hereof; and declaring an emergency. Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Lubbock, Texas. Section 1. The folliwing blocks within the original town of Lubbock, Texas, are hereby de- clared to be within the fire limits; 87, f 64W'V toy 4Y section 2. There shall not be built or constructed on any lot, or lots, within the fire limits any atructume the walls and covering whereof shall not be of fire proof materials; nor shall any structure be moved from any place onto any lot or lots within said limits which has not its walla and covering of such materials. •} Section 3. No building now within said fire limits, and i.r t constructed of other than fireproof materials as set out in Section 2, shall be repaired if the cost of such repairs shall exceed fifty per centum of the value of such building as it stands without repair. Section 4. '-hat Whenever in the judgment of the City Commission, any building or structure shall become depapidated, or in such condition as to render it a menace to property or to public safety the Commission may notify the owner or person in charge thereof to appear before it at a day named in such notice, which shall be not less then ten nor more than twenty days from the date of such notice, and show cause why said building or structure should not be condemned as unsafe and removed from such fire limits; if, at such hearing, it she'll be the judgment of the City Commission, that such building or structure be condemned as aforesaid and ordered removed from the fire limits, the owner thereof shall within ten days from the date of such order remove thebuilding or structure from the fire limits, and upon his failure to do so he shall be deemed to have violated this ordinance, and each dap the said structure or building, or any part thereof, remains within such fire limits, shall be a separate offense. section 5. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed. Section 6. Any person violating, or causing to be violated, any art hereof shall, upon convicted, be punished by a art of not more than two hundred dollars. Section 7. The fact that there is no ordinance no adequately protecting the property Within the limits above named from the hazards of fire, and the great need to prevent fires Within such district, creates an emergency and public necessity that the rule rquiring ordinances to be read at two several meetiW before enactment be suspended and that this ordinance be passed at the meeting of its intro— duction, and be effective after due publication, and it is so ordered.
