AN ORDINANCE appointing an inspector of electric wiring in the
City, defining his duties, requiring or occupants of buildings wired for eleo-
trieity to permit such premises to be inspected; providing that defective
wiring shall he condemned and the person using same shall not use such
wiring until properly installed; that all wiring hereafter put in shall
be inspected by the City Inspector before being used, fixing fees for such,
providing a penalty and declaring an emergency.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK
Section 1. The office of Inspector of Electric Wiring is hereby
created; and his duties shall consist of inspecting all electric wiring
in this City before same is connected with any electric lighting or power
system of inspecting all wiring believed to be defective so there might be
a danger of fire, and such other duties as may be imposed upon him by
the City of Lubbock.
Section 2. No person shall connect any building with any elec-
tric light or power system or plant until after the wiring on such premises
has been inspected by such Inspector, and for such purpose shall permit
suehlnspector free access to all parts of such premises where electric
wire may be; and any person desiring to connect any premises, after being
fully wired to any electric light or power system, shall give such
Inspector 48 hours previous notice, in writing, or their intention to
so connect, and no wiring shall be added thereto, after such inspection,
and connected with any system until the added wiring shall have, likewise,
been inspected as previously stated. And no such connection shall he
made until after such wiring has been found safe by the Inspector of
Electric Wiring.
Section 9. If, upon inspection by the Inspector of Electric Wiring,
that the wiring on any premises is found to be defective or unsafe, notice
of such condition shall be given to the owner or occupant thereof, and
he shall immediately cause said premises to be disconnected from all such
systems until the defects shall have been remedied, to he judged of by the
Inspector of Electric Wiring.
Section 4. A fee of Fifty cents for each inspection herein mentioned
shall be taxed against the occupant of such premises inspected, which
shall be paid into the Light fund of the City. No person shall connect
with any light or power system until after having paid said inspection fee and
received from the Inspector of Electric Wiring a written statement to the
fact of inspection, and that such wiring has been found to be safe.
Section 5. Any person violating any part of this Ordinance shall
upon conviction, be fined in any sum not less than Five Dollars nor more than
One hundred Dollars.
Section 6. That fact of great danger from fees caused by defective
wiring, creates an emergency that this Ordinance shall be passed on the
day of its introduction and be effective at once, upon unanimous vote,
which is done this February the 12th, 1918.
