RESOLUTION
'1
WHEREAS, in order to continue the tradition and benefit to the City of Lubbock„
'to continue to promote tourism and to promote good will through the use of the "Buddy
Holly" name on the Buddy Holly Center and museum, on January 26, 2009, the City
';Council of the great City of Lubbock, Texas, entered into a contract with Maria Elena
Holly for the use of Buddy Holly's name; and
WHEREAS, provisions of the contract offered by the City of Lubbock, accepted
by Maria Elena Holly, and agreed to by the City Council of Lubbock state that the lot to
the west of the Buddy Holly Center be made into a green space or pocket park and named
The Buddy Holly and Maria Elena Holly Plaza; and
WHEREAS, it has been eleven months with little or no progress achieved towards
the creation of the pocket park; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department has proven
,experience in the design and construction of parks throughout the city; NOW
THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, TEXAS:
a) THAT the City Council of Lubbock, Texas instructs the City Manager to
utilize the resources, cost efficiencies, and creativity of the City of
Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department to immediately begin
designing The Buddy Holly and Maria Elena Holly Plaza; and
b) THAT the City Council of Lubbock, Texas instructs the City Manager to
make it a goal to begin the construction of said plaza by March 31, 2010.
