AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE OFFICE OF CITY SCAVENGER, DEFINING 'HIS
DUTIES, FEES, ETC.
Be it Ordained by the City Council of the City of Lubbock:
Article 1. That the office of City Scavenger, be, and is hereby
created. Said Officer shall be appointed by the City Council and shall
hold his office under the Rules and Regulations governing appointive
offices.
Article 2. It shall be the Duty of the City Scavenger to remove all
carcasses from within the City Limits to the dump ground unless removed
from the City Limits at once by the owner, and he shall receive the following
fees for so doing;
For removing the carcass of a horse, mule, or cow ---------- $1.00
For removing the carcass of a hog, dog, or a calf ---------- .50
These fees and all other fees in this Ordinance to be collected from the
individual or from whom the service is rendered.
Article 3. It shall be his duty to clean and cleanse all closets, or
privies within the City Limits. Those at private residences to be cleaned
twice each month except during the months of December, January, February,
and March, when one cleaning per month is all that is hereby required.
All other closets shall be bleaned once every week. The fees for such
work shall be paid by the one for whom the service is rendered and shall
be paid on or before the tenth, of each month in advance for the months
work and shall be as follows:
Private residences $ .50 per month
Boarding houses (regular) 1.50 " of
Business houses 1;50 „ It
Wagon yards 2.00 " if
Hotels 3.00 it
School houses, when school is in session, 2.00 " "
Article 4. It shall be the duty of the City Scavenger to do the work
of cleaning closets during the night time, between darkness and daylight.
Article 5. It shall be the duty of the Scavenger to attend to the
collection of all fees mentioned herein and they are hereby levied and
ordered paid and any one failing or refusing to pay same shall be report-
ed to the City Secretary.
Article 6. It shall be the duty of the City Scavenger to haul to the
dump ground all other waste matter of whatever nature when so ordered to
do so by the Mayor or any one of the Aldermen and for such services he
shall receive reasonable compensation.
Article 7. It shall be the duty of the City Scavenger to furnish and
use sufficent lime for disinfectant purposes after each cleaning of every
closet.
Article 8. The fees for cleaning the closets conne7ted with the Business
Houses shall be doubled for the first month.
Article 9. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after May the 1st, 1909.
