HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2023-R0104 - Homeland Security Division Grant Funding for Fire RescueResolution No. 2023-RO104 Item No. 5.17 February 28, 2023 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock finds it in the best interest of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Lubbock Texas, that certain travel and training be undertaken by new members of the Lubbock Fire Heavy Rescue Team; and WHEREAS, the Office of the Governor of Texas, Homeland Security Division, has made available, to be coordinated by and distributed through, the South Plains Association of Governments ("SPAG"), grant funding opportunities for said activities to promote local and regional public safety resiliency; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock desires to avail the City of grant funding in an amount up to $61,000, agrees to appropriate an amount of matching funds equal to $61,000 to secure said grant funding by award, and further commits to ongoing support of funded projects; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock expresses herein an intent and commitment to return to the Office of the Governor any funds lost, misused, or otherwise directed inconsistently with the terms of the grant award, and in the event the City of Lubbock discontinues its support of projects funded by the award, that assets purchased with the award be made available to SPAG to redistribute elsewhere in the SPAG region. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to apply for the aforementioned grant funds, accept or reject any award, and timely submit all required reporting associated therewith to the appropriate agency; THAT the City Manager shall present any adjustments to the City of Lubbock budget necessitated by any grant award to the City Council for final approval.
