Of Public Safety For Equipment Funds - 01_23_2002Resolution No. 2002-R0029 January 23, 2002 Item No. 35 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Texas Legislature enacted Senate Bill 1074 prohibiting racial profiling by peace officers employed by law enforcement agencies in this State; and WHEREAS, SB 1074 encourages the use of video and audio equipment in motor vehicles regularly used by law enforcement agencies to make traffic and pedestrian stops by exempting agencies that have such equipment from some of the reporting requirements under the statute; and WHEREAS, SB 1074 further encourages the use of video and audio equipment in such motor vehicles by providing funding for such equipment through the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS); and WHEREAS, the DPS is now accepting applications from law enforcement agencies that are requesting funds for video and audio equipment pursuant to SB 1074; and WHEREAS, it would be in the best interest of the City of Lubbock, Texas, to request such funds; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, TEXAS: THAT the Mayor of the City BE and is hereby directed to execute for and on behalf of the governing body of the City an application to the Texas Department of Public Safety requesting funds for video and audio equipment and which certifies to the DPS that the Lubbock Police Department needs funds or video and audio equipment as described by Article 2.135(a)(1)(A) of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
