HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 1927 - Grant Application - LCAC - Art Works, Municipal Building - 01_24_1985Resolution #1927 January 24, 1985 Agenda Item #27 DGV:js RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the Mayor of the City of Lubbock BE and is hereby authorized and directed to execute for and on behalf of the City of Lubbock a Grant Application and all related documents. Said Grant Application to be submitted to the Lubbock Cultural Affairs Council and to be in the amount of FIFTEEN THOUSAND AND NO/100 DOLLARS ($15,000.00) for the purpose of purchasing works of art for the Municipal Building, a copy of the Grant Application is attached herewith, and shall be spread upon the minutes of the Council and as spread upon the minutes of this Council shall constitute and be a part of this Resolution as if fully copied herein in detail. Clearly and concisely describe this project: The City of Lubbock recently restored the former Sears Building to serve as City Hall. The contemporary design of the building provides:a.unique setting for a permanent exhibit.of contemporary art works that would enhance the interior design and expose the citizenry to West Texas artists. Specific areas have been designated to display such media as tapestries, prints,.lithographs, earthenware, oils,'watercolors, and glass. 12. How did this project originate: The City Council recognized the need to decorate the new City Hall. To meet this need, the Lubbock Municipal Arts Committee developed a comprehensive plan with a strong conceptual statement. Work will be placed to reflect the atmosphere created on eachlevelof the building. This project is also a means to help publicize the artistic talent found in the community and throughout the region. 13. What are the objectives of this project: <a) Purchase contemporary works of Art depicting. the West Texas environment and life styles. (b) Provide access to quality art work not normally encountered by the average citizen. (c)Improve awareness of local talent both from within and beyond the community. (d)' Encourage private sector contribution of quality art for public places. (e) Provide an aesthetically pleasing work environment. 14. Why is this project needed by the Lubbock Community: To Jncrease awareness of the Arts, to provide widespread exposure for local talent. 15. How will you publicize the project: Press releases, media coverage and a formal reception and exhibit for the artists and the community. 16. A copy of an independent audit or a financial statement from a certified public accountant for the most recent operating year. SECTION F If a grant is awarded, the applicant hereby gives assurances to the Lubbock Cultural Affairs Council that: 1. The activities and services for which financial assistance is sought will be administered by or under the supervision of the applying organization. 2. Any funds received as a result of this application will be used solely for the project described. 3. Appropriate credit will be given to "The Lubbock Cultural Affairs Council/City of Lubbock Grants Program" in any programs or publicity relating to the project. 4. The undersigned have been authorized by the applying organization to submit this application. 5. The applicant is a non-profit entity as defined by the IRS, an educational institution, or a unit of government. 6. The applicant shall retain a copy of the 1984 Lubbock Cultural Affairs Council/City of Lubbock grants handbook and shall execute grant by the rules and regulations stated therein. 7. The Applicant hereby agrees to indemnify the LCAC from any liability rising out of the disbursement and use of grant funds including, but not limited to any cause of accidents or claim arising at.events made possible or partially possible by the funds. (In so far as the Constitution and laws of the State of Texas permit in applications made by Texas Tech University) 8. Unless grantee submits completed project evaluation form within ninety days of project's termination, grantee forfeits final 20% of grant funds.
