RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the U.S. Highway 87 Improvement Association is an organization
composed of citizens of all Texas counties and cities situated along U.S.
Highway 87, which runs from Port Lavaca, Texas, to Raton, New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, the Association recognizes the immediate need for present and
future planning of our highway transportation system; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock, Texas, believes that the
development of U.S. Highway 87 is of critical importance to the financial
strength and commercial viability of the City of Lubbock, Texas, NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT the Texas Department of Highways and Public transportation is strongl'.
urged to program U.S. Highway 87 from Interstate 27 at Lubbock south to Inter-
state 10 as a four -lane divided highway; and
THAT such highway should be a priority primary type four -lane divided
highway along the route of the U.S. Highway 87 corridor to meet with feeder
traffic of Interstate 25 at Raton, New Mexico; and
THAT it is further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
the Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation to indicate our
continuing interest in the selection of U.S. Highway 87 as a four -lane divided
highway and to indicate our gratitude for the Department's past efforts to
accomplish this goal.
