HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 807 - Recommend Changes - State Representative District 75A (123) - District Lines - 05_14_1981RESOLUTION #807 - 5/14/81 RF.gnT.TTTTnW A RESOLUTION MAKING A NEW RECOMMENDATION FOR CHANGES IN DISTRICT LINES FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT 75A (123) AND STATE REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT 75B (124). WHEREAS, the 1980 Official Final Federal Census determined that the City of Lubbock has a population of 173,979, and WHEREAS, State Representative District No. 75A (123) has a population of 95,818 within said District, and WHEREAS, State Representative District No. 75B (124) has a population of 70,382 within said District, and WHEREAS, there is a need to equalize the representation between the two Districts; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the 67th Session of the Texas Legislature enact a system of reapportionment regarding State Representative District #123 and State Representative District #124 that would be fair and equitable to the citizens of the City of Lubbock and its environs; THAT the 67th Session of the Texas Legislature enact a system of reapportionment of said State Districts that would give further compliance with the law of the State of Texas reflecting equal validity to the One - Man -One -Vote Doctrine; THAT the 67th Session of the Texas Legislature consider.and preserve the historic community of this area and that the reapportionment thereof conform to ''the historic value that is of common interest to the citizens of this area; and THAT in the event litigation _results from said reapportionment enacted byl,,the 67th Session of the Texas Legislature, that the burden of such litigation not rest upon the shoulders of the citizens of the City of Lubbock!
