HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2010-R0303 - Declaration Of Local State Of Disaster - 07/08/2010Resolution No. 2010-RO303 July 8, 2010 Item No. 1 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Maorof the City of Lubbock declared a state of disaster for the City of Lubbock on the 3" day of July, 2010 to preserve life and property due to the imminent approach and effects of Hurricane Alex; and WHEREAS, Section 10-11 of the City Code of Ordinances provides that the City Council confirm such a declaration; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the declared state of disaster still exists and is continuing from the effects of Hurricane Alex, including damage and contamination to Lake Alan Henry due to record rain fall and flooding and the effects of damage on oil lines and other infrastructure caused by flooding from Hurricane Alex; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF :: 6ZOX THAT the City Council of the City of Lubbock does hereby acknowledge, confirm and ratify the execution of the Declaration of a Local State of Disaster of July 3, 2010, and all related documents and that said declaration is hereby continued and renewed. Said Declaration of a Local State of Disaster is attached hereto and incorporated in this resolution as if fully set forth herein and shall be included in the minutes of the City Council. Passed by the City Council on July 8, 2010 TOM MARTIN, MAYOR ATTEST: Rebecc Garza, City Secretary APPROVED AS TO CONTENT: 4L_4 Lewis Treadwell, Deputy Chief of Emergency Services APP V AS TO FORM: Chad Weaver, Assistant City Attorney vw:ccdocs/RES.Declaration of Disaster July 6, 2010 Resolution No. 2010-RO303 DECLARING A LOCAL STATE OF DISASTER WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock on the 3`d day of July, 2010 has suffered widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property (or there is imminent threat of same) resulting from the effects of Hurricane Alex, including but not limited to, excessive rain, winds and flooding; and WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Lubbock has determined that extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and to protect or rehabilitate property; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF 1. That a state of disaster is declared for the City of Lubbock. 2. That the City of Lubbock's Emergency Management Plan has been implemented. 3. That this state of disaster shall continue for a period of not more than seven days of the date hereof, unless the same is continued by consent of the City Council of the City of Lubbock, Texas. 4. That this proclamation shall take effect immediately from and after its issuance. ORDERED this the 3`d day of July, 2010.
