HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2007-R0224 - Amend Resolution 4972 To Removed Named Areas Within Buddy Holly Plaza - 05_24_2007Resolution No. 2007-RO224 May 24, 2007 Item No. 5.20 RESOLUTION WHEREAS the City Council adopted Resolution 4972, dated September 28, 1995, naming the area east of Avenue Q, north of 8th Street, west of Avenue O and south of 7a' Street the "Buddy Holly Plaza," and specifying that a Buddy Holly "Walk of Fame" and a Buddy Holly "Terrace" be located within the Buddy Holly Plaza; and WHEREAS, Civic Lubbock, Inc. operates the "Walk of Fame" program to honor those individuals in the field of the arts, music and/or entertainment who have an affiliation to Lubbock and the West Texas area and who have gained national recognition in their field, as well as the "Terrace" program honoring citizens of the Lubbock region who have devoted a significant part of their lives to the development, promotion of regional art, music or entertainment in the West Texas area; and WHEREAS, Civic Lubbock, Inc, recommends that the name of the "Walk of Fame" program be changed to the "West Texas Walk of Fame," that the name of the "Terrace" program be changed to the "West Texas Terrace," and that Resolution 4972 be amended to delete these two areas as named portions of the Buddy Holly Plaza; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to amend Resolution 4972 in accordance with Civic Lubbock's recommendation; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT Resolution 4972 is hereby amended to delete the following named areas within the Buddy Holly Plaza. (1) The Buddy Holly "Walk of Fame," and (2) The Buddy Holly "Terrace" Passed by the City Council this 24th day of May , 2007. DAVID A.
