RESOLUTION
I
WHEREAS, Vivian T. Cooke was a gifted artist and teacher in Lubbock for over 30
years; and
I
WHEREAS, Vivian T. Cooke was the sculptor of the statute, "A Golden Day" located
in the Carver Heights Babyland area of the Lubbock Cemetery; and
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Board has recommended to the City Council
that it recognize Vivian T. Cooke's contributions to the community by renaming the African -
American Babyland sections of the Lubbock Cemetery, including the Carver Heights
Babyland, to Vivian T. Cooke Memorial Babyland; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that Vivian T. Cooke's contributions to the City of
Lubbock as an artist, teacher and citizen were significant;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT the City Council of the City of Lubbock honors the memory of Vivian T. Cooke
by formally re -naming the African -American Babyland sections of the City of Lubbock
Cemetery to Vivian T. Cooke Memorial Babyland, including the Carver Heights Babyland
section.
