RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock finds that it is of paramount
importance to insure the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the City of Lubbock
(the "City"); and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to establish the means to decrease the
instances of crime within the City; and
WHEREAS, developing an increased police presence within the City would be
effective in decreasing crime within the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to establish a goal to increase the staffing
level of police officers based upon the population of persons in the City; NOW,
THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT the City Council hereby establishes a goal to increase police staffing so
that said staffing shall obtain a level of two (2) officers per one thousand (1000)
population. City staff is further directed to hire qualified recruits in order to obtain the
above -stated goal even if the budgeted limit of 320 police officers is surpassed. In event
the budgeted number of officers is surpassed, the City budget shall be amended to reflect
any such change.
