HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2004-R0395 - Resolution Adopting South Plains Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan (MAP) - 08_16_2004Resolution No. 2004-RO395 August 16, 2004 Item No. 43 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, it is imperative for the City of Lubbock to adopt a South Plains Regional Hazard Mitigation Action Plan (MAP), for the purpose of reducing the long term risks to human life and property from natural and man-made disasters through a program of disaster mitigation planning activities; and WHEREAS, it is required that the City of Lubbock adopt such a plan to remain eligible for Federal Post -Disaster Recovery Assistance; and WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock deems it imperative to promote resource sharing and increase cooperation among governmental entities and awareness of needs and support from public officials, the community, and business leaders; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the Mayor of the City of Lubbock BE and is hereby authorized and directed to adopt the City of Lubbock's portion of the South Plains Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan (MAP), including a strategy to develop the South Lubbock Drainage System to reduce flooding risks in playa lakes north and south of the 98' Street Corridor; to develop and implement a warning and communication system for Lake Alan Henry; to assist in GIS system inventory of critical facilities and Global Positioning System for rapid damage assessment; to revise the debris management plan to include the unincorporated area of the county, the City of Lubbock, Texas Tech University, and Lubbock Christian University; and to develop and implement an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) with the Texas Department of Transportation, and related documents. Said MAP is attached hereto and incorporated in this resolution as if fully set forth herein and shall be included in the minutes of the City Council.
