HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2003-R0323 - Grant To Fund New Technology To Police Department - 08/28/2003 (3)Resolution No. 2003-RO323 August 28, 2003 Item No. 25 RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, TEXAS: THAT the Mayor of the City of Lubbock BE and is hereby authorized and directed to execute for and on behalf of the City of Lubbock an Agreement with the United States Department of Justice, and any associated documents, for a grant in the amount of $205,159 to fund new technology for the Lubbock Police Department Public Safety Computer System, and that the Council hereby agrees, in accordance with the requirements of such grant application, to a cash match of $22,795, which is one -ninth of such grant amount. Public Safety Hardware/Software System upgrade • Computer Aided Dispatch module upgrade from mainframe computer system to a PC based system. • Records Management System upgrade from text based reporting system to PC based computer system. Purchase Public Safety software. 2. Continue to upgrade Police Mobile Data System. • Replace mobile data terminals with laptops. • Interface system to Records Management System to allow officers to send full reports to Records System electronically. CITY OF LUBBOCK AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY ITEM #/SUMMARY: # Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Application The Police Department requests the Council to consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a Local Law Enforcement Block Grant application from the Department of Justice and to authorize the expenditure of one -ninth matching funds upon the awarding of this grant. The funds are to enhance technology within the Police Department. BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION: The Omnibus Fiscal Year 1999 Appropriations Act authorizes the Bureau of Justice Assistance Director to make'funds available to local units of government under the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant program for the purposes of reducing crime and improving public safety. The Police Department requests that the City Council authorize the Mayor to execute this grant application with Department of Justice. The Police Department requests this grant to purchase new technologies to enhance the department's Public Safety Computer System. FISCAL IMPACT: The Local Law Enforcement Block Grant requires one -ninth matching funds from the City, to be obligated and expended during the Federal project period. This Local Law Enforcement Block Grant is in the amount of $205,159. The City's match will be $22,759. The grant match funding is available in the 2002- 2003 Police Budget SUMMARY/RECOMMENDATION: The Police Department strongly recommends passing this resolution and approving this grant application.
