LLMT 3 pages This program helps city-wide, low-income homeowners in obtaining handicap accessible items within single-family structures. Qualifying applicants of the program must be disabled owner occupants of a single family residence, or be the primary caretaker of a disabled person living on a permanent basis in the owner -occupant's home. Eligible repairs under this program include: building wheelchair ramps, widening of doors, installing grab bars, building accessible showers, installing handicap toilets, sinks and faucets, etc. In addition to helping disabled individuals, the program creates Jobs for local subcontractors, who have been City approved and Insured. By providing these services, the department is fighting poverty and keeping a positive economic level in the community. The estimated grant for repairs is $10,000 per household. This funding amount was increased four years ago from the $7,500 limit to an estimated $10,000 per case due to the lead base paint requirements, which became effective September 15, 2000. The number of actual units completed may increase or decrease, depending on the number of houses approved which contain lead. $200,000 is being requested for this program. in 2004-05, the program was funded for $200,000. The Department Mission is met because this program creates a positive change for the citizens of Lubbock by helping to create quality housing and economic development for the contractors and material suppliers In the City.
