HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2005-R0204 - Naming Of Park Facilities - Pallotine Park - 05_12_2005Resolution No. 2005-R0204 May 12, 2005 Item No. 41 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Section 2-259 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lubbock requires the Parks and Recreation Board to submit recommendations to the City Council with regard to the naming of park facilities; and WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, met on April 26, 2005, to consider naming the open space, located in the area of First Street and Avenue L, as Pallotine Park in recognition of the Pallotine Priests who arrived at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in 1950 and have continued serving the community since then; and WHEREAS, the Priests were instrumental in helping to rebuild the neighborhood after the devastating May 11, 1970, tornado and in providing many other services to the neighborhood and the City of Lubbock; and WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board recommends that the City Council name the annex as Pallotine Park; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock deems it to be in the best interest of the citizens of the City of Lubbock to name the area as Pallotine Park: NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the open space, located in the area of First Street and Avenue L, is hereby named Pallotine Park as recommended by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board in honor of the services provided to the local neighborhood and the City of Lubbock by the Pallotine Priests.
