HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2008-R0336 - Acceptance Of Evacuees Of Hurricane Ike - 09_08_2008Resolution No. 2008-RO336 September 8, 2008 Item No. 1 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Governor Perry has issued an emergency disaster declaration for the State of Texas to free up resources to deal with the existing challenge of providing services to thousands of Hurricane Ike storm victims; and WHEREAS, the Governor has requested that the City of Lubbock take evacuees as needed from the storm to be housed in Lubbock facilities; and WHEREAS, it will be necessary to incur expenses for providing housing, food, clothing and other necessities for the evacuees, until these funds can be reimbursed by FEMA; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT the City Council hereby accepts the request of the Governor to assist in relief efforts and take evacuees of Hurricane Ike and approves incurring expenditures of up to $500,000 from the General Fund (to be reimbursed by federal emergency funds) for housing, food, clothing, and other emergency items for care of the evacuees. SECTION 2. THAT an appropriate Proclamation of Disaster be issued. Passed by the City Council this 8th day of September , 2008. THAT a state of disaster is hereby declared for the City of Lubbock, Texas; and SECTION 2. THAT the City of Lubbock's Emergency Management Plan is hereby implemented; and SECTION 3. THAT the state of disaster shall continue until such time as seven (7) days have passed from the issuance of this proclamation; it is rescinded or has been continued with consent of the City Council of the City of Lubbock; and SECTION 4. THAT this proclamation shall take effect immediately upon its issuance and the City Manager of the City of Lubbock is hereby authorized and directed to distribute this proclamation to all news media and ensure wide distribution of this proclamation to the public. THAT the declaration of local disaster proclaimed by the City of Lubbock September 8, 2008, for Hurricane Ike is hereby terminated. SECTION 2. THAT this proclamation shall take effect immediately upon its issuance and the City Manager of the City of Lubbock is hereby authorized and directed to distribute this proclamation to all news media and ensure wide distribution of this proclamation to the public.
