HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2008-R0238 - Resolution Expressing Support For Flag - 06_26_2008Resolution No. 2008-RO238 June 26, 2008 Item No. 6.10 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Flag Day is celebrated annually on June 14, to commemorate the adoption of the flag of the United States by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777; and WHEREAS, Independence Day is celebrated July 4, to commemorate the n of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776; and WHEREAS, the Republic of Texas flag was adopted on January 24, 1839, and subsequently became the state flag of Texas on December 29, 1845, when Texas entered the Union as the 28`h state; and WHEREAS, the Veterans of Foreign Wars retires worn and torn United States flags to be disposed of in a dignified manner; NOW THERE FORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, TEXAS: a) THAT the City Council of Lubbock, Texas believes all United States and Texas flags should be flown and maintained in proper condition in accordance with 4 U.S:C. §§ 1 - 10; b) THAT the City Council of Lubbock, Texas requests all businesses and citizens that display the United States flag and/or the Texas flag to examine the condition of their flags for possible repair or replacement; and c) THAT the City of Lubbock, Texas desires all United States or Texas flags in need of replacement be retired to a local Veterans of Foreign Wars post or other entity to be destroyed in a proper and dignified manner. by the City Council this 26th day of June , 2008.
