HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2006-R0371 - Resolution Creating The Centennial Committee For 100Th Anniversary Celebration - 07/25/2006Resolution No. 2006-RO371 July 25, 2006 Item No. 6.10 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock desires to establish a Centennial Committee to coordinate and plan activities with Lubbock citizens and organizations surrounding the City's 100`h anniversary, which is officially March 24, 2009; and WHEREAS, the Lubbock Centennial Committee shall be composed of citizens, professionals and business representatives working together to honor the City of Lubbock's rich heritage and promising future; and WHEREAS, collaboration between the Lubbock Centennial Committee and citizens or organizations across the city who are planning special events during 2008 and 2009 will ensure a common centennial theme in celebration of the City of Lubbock; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT a Lubbock Centennial Committee is hereby created by the City Council of the City of Lubbock, which shall perform its duties in accordance with the following criteria: 1. The primary objective of the Committee shall be to coordinate and plan activities surrounding Lubbock's 100`h anniversary celebration in 2008 and 2009. 2. In planning activities, the Committee will collaborate with the Lubbock Independent School District, the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, the Lubbock Hispanic Chamber, the African American Chamber, Civic Lubbock, City staff, and any other group planning special events to ensure a common centennial theme. 3. The Committee will consist of fifteen members. Each City Council member, including the Mayor, shall designate two committee members for appointment and the Mayor shall also appoint the Chair. 4. Regular meetings will be held at times and locations established by a majority of the Committee members. A simple majority shall constitute a quorum, and a majority vote of the quorum shall be required for any action to be taken by the Committee. 5. The Lubbock Centennial Committee shall serve until completion of the Centennial activities. Passed by the City Council this 25th day of July , 2006. .â–ºter'%!pop I r .
