RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the City Council has pursued and adopted a policy and practice of equa
opportunity for all inhabitants of the City of Lubbock, and
WHEREAS, this is further manifested by the creation of the Human Relations Com-
mission as adopted and made a part of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lubbock,
and
WHEREAS, the City Council has now been made aware of the fact that certain
business practices of some owners and operators of bars and clubs in the City of
Lubbock have resulted in discrimination between citizens of the City of Lubbock, and
WHEREAS, the practices followed by these businesses resulting in discrimination
is contrary to the express policy of the City of Lubbock and the laws of the United
States, and
WHEREAS, the City Council is of the opinion that the discriminatory practices -
of these businesses should be discouraged and prevented; NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK-
THAT each and every citizen- of the City of Lubbock, BE and is hereby encoura
and requested to report any and all acts of discrimination directed at any individ
or group of citizens to the Office of the Executive Secretary of the Human Relatio
Commission of the City of Lubbock, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
THAT the Executive Secretary BE and is hereby directed to aid and assist all
persons offended by practiced acts of discrimination and further cooperate with and
assist the proper federal or State agency having jurisdiction over such matters, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
THAT the Mayor be requested and is hereby authorized on behalf of the City
Council to communicate in writing directed to the'xespective members of the Texas
legislature, that the City Council of -Lubbock urges each to press upon the Texas
legislature the need to address itself to this grave problem of discrimination faced
from time to time by the citizens of Texas,and enact suitable and necessary laws
which will prevent discriminatory practices against any individual because of race,'
color, creed, religion, sex, national origin or ancestry and cultural background.
