HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 040578A - Canvass Returns & Declare Results - General City Election - Held 4_1_78 - 04_05_1978II'KJ:bsb A RESOLUTION CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE GENERAL ,CITY ELECTION HELD ON APRIL 1, 1978 BE IT REMEMBERED THAT on the 5th day of April, 1978, the City Council of the City of Lubbock met at 10:30 o'clock, A.M. in special session in compliance with the charter provision, at the regular meeting place of the Council in the City Hall, in the City of Lubbock, with the following members present to -wit: On Motion ofCouncilwoman Jordan , seconded by Councilman McAlister , it is unanimously carried that the returns of the general City election, held April 1, 1978 for the election of a Mayor and two (2) Councilmen for terms as provided by law, be opened and canvassed, and the results thereof declared therefrom; and said returns having been duly canvassed, it is found that the votes for the various can- didates are as follows: CANDIDATES FOR MAYOR: VOTES RECEIVED: Robert Kizer 5,125 Dirk West 10,236 James G. Marshall 699 Leland Kelly 286 WRITE IN VOTES: (See Attachment) CANDIDATES FOR COUNCILMAN PLACE NO. 1: Alan Henry 10,672 Mike Stevens 6,652 WRITE IN VOTES: (See Attachment) CANDIDATES FOR COUNCILMAN PLACE NO. 3: Maria Luisa Mercado 3,249 Glad Norman 1,783 M. J. Aderton 6,518 Bob Schmidt 5,576 WRITE IN VOTES: (See Attachment) I� oKj:bsb And it further appearing that said election was duly held as provided by law and that Dirk West received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Mayor of the City of Lubbock; that Alan Henry received a majority of the votes cast for Councilman, Place Number 1; and that such persons were duly elected by the qualified voters of the City of Lubbock; and, further that no candidate received a majority of votes of the total sum of votes cast for the office of Councilman, Place Number 3; IT IS THEREFORE FOUND, DECLARED AND CERTIFIED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT Dirk West was duly elected Mayor of the City of Lubbock; that Alan Henry was duly elected Councilman, Place Number 1 and that M. J. Aderton and Bob Schmidt received the highest number of votes for the office of Councilman Place Number 3. That no one was elected by a majority of all votes cast for the office of Councilman Place Number 3 in said election held April 1, 1978; therefore, a run-off election is hereby ordered to be held on April 25, 1978 in accordance with the City Charter and State Law. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED ON MOTION OF Councilwoman Jordan , seconded by Councilman McAlister this 5th day of April, 1978 by the following vote: COUNCILMEN'VOTING "AYE": "COUNCILMEN VOTING "NAY": ROY BASS, MAYOR ATTEST: Neva Phillips, City Secrery-Treasurer APPROVED AS TO FORM: Fred 0. Senter, City Attorney RESOLUTION APPROVING OFFICIAL STATEMENT THE STATE OF TEXAS § COUNTY OF LUBBOCK § CITY OF LUBBOCK § ON THIS, the 6th day of April, 1978, the City Council of the City of Lubbock, Texas, convened in special session at the regular meeting place thereof in the City Hall, the meeting being open to the public and notice of said meeting, giving the date, hour_ place and subject thereof, having been given as prescribed by Article 6252-17, Section 3A, V.A.T.C.S., with the following members present and in attendance, to wit: ROY BASS MAYOR DIRK WEST MAYOR PRO TEM CAROLYN JORDAN ) COUNCILWOMAN ALAN HENRY ) COUNCILMEN BILL McALISTER ) and with the following absent: None , constituting a quorum; and among other business considered at said meeting, there was submitted to the City Council for passage and adoption.the following resolution: WHEREAS, it is provided in the Official Statement, dated :'March 9, 1978, pertaining to the $1,730,000 "City of Lubbock, "Texas, Airport Revenue Bonds, Series 1978", that the City Council ;iwill approve as to form and content the Official Statement pre- pared in connection with the issuance and sale of such bonds and the use thereof in the reoffering of the bonds will be approved sand authorized on the date of sale of the bonds; now, --therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: That the Official Statement prepared in connection with the issuance and sale of $1,730,000 "City of Lubbock, Texas, Airport Revenue Bonds, Series 1978" is hereby approved as to form and content and the further use of said Official Statement in the reoffering of the bonds by the purchaser is hereby approved and authorized. The above resolution having been read in full, it was moved by Councilman McAlister and seconded by + that the same be passeT and adopted. Thereupon, t e question being called for, the motion carried by the following vote: YEAS: Mayor Bass, Councilwoman Jordan, Councilmen West, Henry and McAlister. NAYS: None. The Presiding Officer announced that the resolution had been finally passed and adopted. MINUTES APPROVED, this the 5 h day of April, 1978.
