" JOINT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock and the Lubbock Independent School District
are required by law to hold elections on April 1, 1978; and
WHEREAS, in a joint effort to assist the voters and to reduce the cost of
` holding such elections by combining, wherever possible, the voting places for
such elections; NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED By the City Council of the City of Lubbock and the Board
of Trustees of the Lubbock Independent School District Acting Jointly:
THAT a joint election of the City of Lubbock and the Lubbock Independent
School District be held on April1, 1978, insofar as it is legally possible under
the Federal Voting Rights Act; that is, in voting precincts where the precinct
boundaries and voting places of both the City and the School District correspond,
there shall be one joint voting place with one election judge in charge and electio
judges serving both the City and the School District.
IN voting precincts where the precinct boundaries and/or the voting places
do not correspond, the City and the School District shall have separate precincts
voting places and separate election judges and clerks.
IN voting precincts where the City and the School District join together,
separate ballots, poll lists, tally lists, return forms and ballot boxes shall be
provided for the City and for the School District, and each (the City and the
School District) shall provide and pay for its own forms and boxes. In addition,
the City and School shall share any punch -card voting system rental and expense
THE returns, ranvass:and report of results shall be made separately by the
City and the School District in the manner required by law.
THE ELECTION JUDGE in joint precincts shall be responsible for the custo
dy and return of ballots, and supplies to both the City and the School District.
THE expense of holding the election in joint precincts such as election
judges' and clerks' salaries, custodial expense and supplies shall be shared
equally by the City and the School District insofar as joint expenses are con-
cerned.
THE City and the School District,may agree upon separate or joint checks
to the judges and clerks and the rate of compensation to such officials.
THE Election Orders and Election Notices of the City and the School
District shall reflect the agreement stated above.
