"BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
WHEREAS, HR 13040, if adopted, would impose unwarranted
Federal regulations and intrusion on retirement plans and
programs created and operated by several states for the mun-
icipal employees in those states; and
WHEREAS, HR 13040 would impose administrative costs and
financial burden on all retirement systems which would result
in losses to recipients of the program; and
WHEREAS, it is the feeling of this Council there is no
need for the Texas Municipal Retirement System to be subjected
to scrutiny and regulation by employees of Federal boards or
bureaus.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the
City of Lubbock, Texas, hereby vigorously oppose the adoption
of HR 13040; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be
sent to members of Congress representing the State of Texas
and to the Honorable Dolph Briscoe, Governor of Texas."
