HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 051277A - Opposition To House Bill 1643 And Senate Bill 819 - Park Use - 05_12_1977f� KJ/hw RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the LEGISLATURE of the STATE OF TEXAS has before it in this current session several bills which are of concern to the CITY OF LUBBOCK as they relate to our parks and open space program and, WHEREAS, one such bill which is of interest to the CITY OF LUBBOCK and which we are in favor of has been submitted by Senator Kent Hance of Lubbock, being Senate Bill No. 1194 which would create a TEXAS OPEN SPACE FUND and, WHEREAS, two bills before the Legislature would be of concern to the CITY OF LUBBOCK and which the City would be in opposition to are House Bill No. 1643 and Senate Bill No. 819 which would prohibit local governments from exercising mandatory dedication of land for park use and such bills would not be of benefit to the CITY OF LUBBOCK in that the CITY OF LUBBOCK has an OPEN SPACE and PLAYA LAKE ORDINANCE and PLAN which is especially designed for the CITY OF LUBBOCK'S particular situation and would be deemed of much greater benefit to the CITY OF LUBBOCK than these proposed bills; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the City Council of the City of Lubbock does hereby submit the following to the legislative deldgation of the Lubbock and ],Vest Texas Area: The City Council does hereby endorse Senate Bill No. 1194 which would create a Texas Open Space Fund. The City Council hereby expresses its opposition to House Bill 1643 and SentLte Bill 819 which would prohibit the City of Lubbock from exercising mandatory dedication of land for park use. The City Council further urges the legislative delegation to express their opposition to these bills concerning park dedication. Passed by the City Council this f p�ay of % 1977.
