RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, CONGRESSMAN GEORGE MAHON has proposed that
AMTRAK Passenger Service be extended from Georgia through Lubbock,
Texas to California and other West Coast states; and
WHEREAS, the City Council supports such proposal and desires to
convey such support to the officials of AMTRAK; NOW THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT the Mayor and City Council of the City of Lubbock do hereby
support the proposal of CONGRESSMAN MAHON for AMTRAK Passenger
Service extending from Georgia to California through Lubbock, Texas; and
THE City Council respectfully urges the officials of AMTRAK to grant
such proposal and furnish passenger service to a large area that is now
isolated from passenger service.

Bill Rusk of the Chamber of Commerce called this morning and requested that
you prepare a resolution indicating your support for AMTRAK passenger service
from Georgia through Lubbock to California and the west coast as proposed by
Congressman Mahon.
Mr. Rusk will be attending a meeting with a Mr. Lumus of AMTRAK, Congressman
Mahon, and other officials next week in Washington, D.C. and would like to
have the resolution with your signature by Friday if possible.
