HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 021276F - Hotel Occupancy Tax To Be Used For Civic Center Projects - 02_12_1976KJ /nh RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Article 1269j-4. 1, Vernonts Annotated Texas Civil Statutes authorized the levying of a "Hotel Occupancy Tax"; and WHEREAS, such taxes were levied by City of Lubbock Ordinance No. 5972 as amended by Ordinance No. 5998; and WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock has provided and is operating an Auditorium -Coliseum and, whereas, the new Memorial Civic Center is nearing completion and operation by the City will conynence soon after completion; and WHEREAS, these facilities are intended, along with civic and other uses, to attract conventions, visitors, and promote tourism; and WHEREAS, revenues produced by such facilities are not expected to be adequate for equipping, future improvement, enlarging, repairing, operation and maintenance of such facilities; and the promotion of use of the facilities for their intended purposes; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the "Hotel Occupancy Tax" be dedicated for such uses effective with the fiscal year commencing October 1, 1976, in accordance with Art. 1279j-4. 1 V. A. T. C. S. , specifically: (1) the acquisition of sites for and the construction, improve- ment, enlarging, equipping, repairing, operation, and main- tenance of convention center facilities including, but not limited to, civic center convention buildings, auditoriums, coliseums and parking areas or facilities for the parking or storage of rotor vehicles or other conveyances located at or in the im- mediate vicinity of the convention center facilities; (2) the furnishing of facilities, personnel and materials for the registration of convention delegates or registrants; (3) for advertising for general promotional and tourist adver- tising of the city and its vicinity and conducting a solicitation and operating programto attract conventions and visitors either by the city or through contracts with persons or organizations selected by the city. r KJ/nh BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that proceeds of the "Hotel Occupancy Tax" be accounted for as a tax revenue of the fund to which expenditures for such facilities are charged in conformity with generally accepted governmental accounting principles and practices.
